400ex axle fit on a 300ex??

I was wondering if a stock 400ex axle will fit on a 300ex? anyone know if this will work?

i went downstairs and looked at both my 400 and 300. The axle carriers dont say they are the same in the magazines but they look like they'll fit by just looking at both s arms.
