Chain lube

I'm trying to figure out who is right and who is wrong. 1 place says chain wax is what i should be useing and another place says chain wax is bad for the chain in the dirt. I ride trails with lots of mud and water. Any info would help please.

dude I use wd-40 when the quad comes out of my garage
I use wd-40 when I'm putting it back in the garage

yeah, I just use JB Chain lube and sometimes Liquid Wrench chain lube and I've never had a problem. My Dad has used WD-40 for a long time without any problems. All dirt/mud riding and never had any problems other than normal long term wear and tear.
