yeah i'd go with Hotcams, Stage 1 seems like what you're after. Might as well look at the Stage 2's while you're in the market.

what type of power does stage 2 give?

From what i understand its more midrange, but i'd check around to be sure. I'm sure it explains it all on hotcams site.

Hmm, I don't think you have a choice of stages with Hotcams anymore. They only sell one set. I have a set of "Oldskool" hotcams, which I guess would be considered a stage 2. If your looking for bottom end, these are not for you. Good mid......real strong top end but I definitely lost some bottom. Cams are a trade off. Your not going to find one that gives you more in one location without sacrificing in another.

OH yes that's right i'd forgotten, Hotcams does not make a stage 2 for the Z400.

Sorry, slipped my mind.

Yep, the "old school" hotcams are suppose to be more aggressive from what I understand. Im not for sure, so dont drill me on that. Web cams is another company that makes cams. Stage 1 works great for low-mid range. Trust me, your gonna feel it!!! If you watch ebay real close, you can pick up some stage 1's for about $210.00 w/ shipping.

Webcams might be a better choice. I believe they have many different grinds based on your requirements. The difference is they are welded and reground from stock cams. I'm about 90% sure on that. Hotcams are the most popular but sometimes one size doesn't fit all. Also there are Megacycles cams. No info on those.

Webs I guess are the way to go if you want something tailored to your specs. I guess it all boils down to what you have done to the engine.;)

I'm running stage 2's right now and they're great. However I don't recommend them for a near stock motor/carb. I have them only because of my Athena 435 kit and FCR carb. That's the only reason I have them. The quad throws out a lot of power.
