Well as much as I love two strokes, and the 250R, I went out and bought a brand new 08 Raptor 700 SE. I am still attempting to put my R together but sourcing parts is taking some time and I just want to ride. So I figured I get myself a nice trail bike I wont have to be pissing with all the time.

If you were gonna do that why didn't you just keep it in the family and get the 700XX? At least then you would still be ridin red. Traitor....

Just out of curiosity, why the Raptor? Why not one of the 450s?

Good luck. I've tried a bunch of different machines out looking for an easy trail machine but everything dissappoints me and I always end up back on the R.

Well I have no intentions of ditching the R, I love honda and the 250R. I just needed something while I was gathering parts and building the R. I was looking into the 450R, especially the 07 SE, but after thinking it over, the raptor just had better options for a reliable trail bike. I like the looks of it and yamahas seem to be reliable machines. There was a 700XX at the dealer when I bought the raptor and it just didnt do it for me. They are ugly as sin, I dont much care for the IRS, and its a first year bike = alot of problems could arise. If honda had something comparable to the rapotor 700 I would have jumped on it. If I was in the market for a 450, the 450R would have been it.

Yea it's mosterous looking. In this trend for who can withstand the most japanese cartoon looking insect look, I think Honda finally outdid themselves with those moth wings. Hey man though, Yamaha is right behind that 700xx. Look at your picture. Notice a trend? :D

I've ridden many different atv's. After I rode them, they always got compared to my honda trikes(200x and 250r), 250r hybrid and trx250r. Every time, I questioned, How can I even imagine riding anything else. I had thought about getting a yfz450, didn't like how it handled. I had a warrior, bought a 250r and the warrior sat in the garage unridden for months. I've ridden 04/05 and 06/07 450r's. I liked my friends 05, it was even pretty stock, I rode others and hated them. His now, I would ride that any day, still like my 250r's better, though. I rode a 07 trx450r, didn't like anything about it. I was told once I got an r, I'll never go back. That is very true. I rode a raptor a few times(01 or 02) and I felt more secure on an atc250r, I didn't own any trikes at that time either.

I dont mind the look of the raptor too much, its basically on the edge of cool and too much, honda however just went too far, the fenders look like they would do absolutely nothing for protection, and the way they have the front fenders is retarded, like the salesman sed they created a nice pocket for mud and stuff to collect. I agree atvs keep getting uglier and uglier. Nothing will be as clean looking as a 88-89 R. Yamaha does seem to have a bug trend though, remember the banshee...

Also for those saying Ill be back to the R, I never left it. Im in the process of putting it together. The raptor isnt a replacement, just a stand in.

Its fun, not the kinda power I was hoping for but I guess they are corked up pretty good stock. The thing that sold me mostly was the good shocks, F.I.,and,reverse. Electric start isnt a bad thing either. That and the colors/graphics (also a negative at the same time).

To tell you the truth i would be surprised if you weren't overall extremely happy with it. The Raptor 700's are very nice, my dad has one with several mods on it and its great.

I'd get one too if i could :)

Im happy with it, just was expecting a little more pep, its got alot of low end though. Guess Im just used to my last ride...a banshee. Ya I guess with the "Big 3" as the 4 pokers call it, the raptor is like a whole new beast. So, I guess in a year or so after the R is done, Ill get a PCIII, filter, and some barker duals.

what is youre engine gunna be with your 250r?

youre gunna be at risk of having your raptor be faster than your 250r

well so far no motor in the R, but Im looking to build a 310 or bigger PV motor. After speaking to Neil at C-Leigh there arent any 310s available now, and I really dont wanna go smaller.

There are pockets of builders that can make a stock cylinder very quick. For example hill shooting a solid tuned 269 can outrun many modified 450's so that's pretty quick. However it's not going to have the bottom end and the fun spot will be above 5 - 6k rpms all the time.

I think you really just need to ask what the bike is used for. You have a raptor now and that's good for some things that 250R's aren't and vice versa. Currently there a lot of options in the marketplace for ATV riders. It looks like Duncan still sells their full line of PC2000 cylinders. I haven't peered into one myself but 've heard good things about them.

Well Im pretty sure Neil can get just about any cylinder out there. Problem is that at this moment they are all out and re-casting more. I believe they are about 5 weeks out between casting and machining. It looks that way for any new PV top end. So we will see. Im still looking for a bottom end aswell. After discussing my goals with Neil, I think we are gonna go with a bit of a top end port job, and let the PV make up the bottom and mid. So itll be a pretty rounded powerband having both bottom and top.
