i recently bought a 400ex on ebay, and have had more than enough problems with it. i just got done rebuilding the topend, but before getting to ride it, i broke the clutch putting the motor together-cam timing chain fell into the engine so i had to get it out.
I need to know what the clutch part is called that the spring bolts thread into.
also, im trying to switch to e85. i saw a thread on here about how to do this, but don't really know how to switch the main jet in the carb. my engine is supposed to be run on 100-110 for an 11:1 piston. would running e85 be a good idea since its higher octane? and i think the carb is jetted, and has no choke, airfilter is a k&n with no airbox as of now.
thanks for your help

I think your trying to think of the Clutch Presure Plate from what you said, the springs slide on a what clymer says is a hub boss and then you stick a bolt through the spring is that what your getting at?

IDK bout the jetting for the E85.

the hub boss, or more commonly called the inner hub.

for an 11:1 you should not need to run 110 or even 100 octane. you should be fine with premium...maybe a mix of premium and race gas if it pings...

im looking at a used clutch on ebay right now, as for E85, where do i get new/different jets? strait from the dealers or a website? i think it would be sweet, since i found e85 as cheap as 2.70 in peoria illinois

I know what you mean about money eating. This weekend I found out that I can't change the preload on my shocks because the springs are junk. And we've already put too much money in a 400ex. haha

that sucks, gives an opportunity for a suspension upgrade though-450r shocks or i like works triple rate shocks.

I'm thinking I'll just buy some new springs and have my Axis' rebuilt.
