ok so i removed the thermostat and replaced with a new one , put all the hoses back on and started the truck and the coolant started to leak all over the floor .. it seemed to be leaking where the thermostat hooks up but not positive. Anyone know why ? I had put a new gasket on it , but does it need sealant too ?

If you can get a gasket for it, then it generally doesn't need any sealant. Make sure everything it torqued down right. Changing a thermostat shouldn't be a big deal and I'm sure it's just something stupid that happened.

What motor is this? On my 4-banger 95 ranger I replaced my thermostat and when I pulled the t-stat housing off I actually put a small crack in it from pulling it off. It was already corroded obviously, but I'd check that out. I think a new housing was quite expensive as it had to come from mazda directly.

you might have over or under tightened it. i always use seatant when i do a t-stat. its better to be safe than sorry. i dont want a comeback.

Sounds like you just didn't scrape the old gasket off good enough... Always use a nice clean surface when applying a new gasket. If any of the old gasket remains it will create leaks.
