I was wondering if a 05 or newer motor with reverse will fit in a 04 or older 400ex? Also if I stroke the motor do I have to make it a 440 or could I make it a 426?

yes the motor will fit you just have to mount the revers knob somewhere. You can have as low as a 416 stroker if you get your crank stroked by powroll. They use a shorter rod which means you can use pretty much any piston made for the 400ex. All you would have to do is get the skirt shaved to clear the crank. If you got your crank stroked by them, got the short rod, and kept the stock bore it would be somewhere around a 416 stroker. Other wise, the lowest is a 440 stroker.
