found some good deals on craigslist today on some bikes cus my quad is gonna be sold by this weekend. i found a 99 wr400 which is in mint shape for 1 grand obo and could be made street legal. or there is a 94 ktm 300exc which could be street legal possibly for 1 grand obo, and then a ktm 250sx for 1100 all bikes are in good clean shape, just wondering which bike you would buy if u had the option to. which bike would be more fun on the road and woods, and which would have the most power.

If you're going to be running roads, get the wr. That would be the easiest to make road ready. The KTM's are nice bikes, but the 250sx is already set up for mx and would require more to make it road ready. The 300exc is a great bike as well, but make sure you check your local laws about some 2 strokes on the road. I know Pa can get picky about that, so make sure you look into it first. If I were to have a dual sport type bike, it'd be the wr400 for sure.

I have a 98 200exc, its is not the bike you want for dual sporting. The 2 stroke ktm's probably will fall into this also. I'm not so sure about the wr either, the early ones had problems starting and gave people fits alot. If I read right, swaping later year exhaust cams, makes for much easier starting. How much off-road and street riding will you be doing? If your dual sporting is limited to trail-trail and nothing extended periods of time, I would go for the 300exc, very friendly power characteristics and big power. Stay away from the 250sx, to start with, no ligthing coils in the stator and small flywheel, kinda narrow power focus too.

That bike out of the three would be the hardest to make road friendly.

the guy with the wr said this one has a larger flywheel and jetting changes to make it easier to start says it takes around 3 kicks when dead cold.

Honestly I'd go with the WR if it were me. A 4 stroke would make a much better road bike. Plus, you wouldn't have to worry about carrying oil with you on the road. At a track you can always have a bottle in the truck, but when you're riding the bike, it's a different story.

I'd say WR. For $1000 that's not bad. Offer him $900 cash and see what he says.
