OK i have a 2007 400ex. its not even 2 months old yet, and its making a horrible metal on metal noise. i think its coming from the left side. at first i thought it was a loose skid plate vibrating against the frame but im not complety sure of that.
it is completely stock other than a billet exhaust tip, please help!

Have you checked the valves recently? Anything is possible I guess but I dont think it would be the chain so soon. So you got like no nerfs or other things correct?

I'm with billyboy93; your skids can be tight, but still noisy. Maybe just take your skids off (since it doesn't take long) and see if it still makes the noise. If it does, check all engine mount and exhaust bolts and try to find the area the noise is coming from. Good luck

I may be waaaaay off, but here's my .02. Check your clutch lever. My '07 was making a rattling noise a couple of weeks ago...drove me crazy. My clutch lever was vibrating against the spacer on the perch. It was still tight, but I tightened it a bit more to fix it. Problem solved.

i think thats it
i came up short on a double last weekend and the impact move my belly pan skid back 4 to 5 inches. me and my dad moved it back. ill take it off and ride it w/o the skid. and see if i hear the noise
1 problem, i cant get the skid off. it uses an allen wrech and the dealerdship tightened it to tight and we cant get it loose.
any ideas?

can you get vice grips on the bolt head? A metric hex drive set is a nice investment:)

well it was skid plate hittin the footpeg mount. but im curious how i could fix it.
the left side of the skid is extended b/c the motor sticks out of the frame a bit. but for the time being i slipped a piece of cardboard bewteen the mount and the skid and rode it and didnt hear a thing.
i cant move the skid over because its already as far as it can go
i guess i can bend it down a bit so it wont hit the mount

btw thank you guys for all your help, im glad i didnt take it to the shop, they wouldnt charged me 70 dollars an hour for a 30 minute job hahaha
