ok i am wanting to switch out my frame with a guy. i have insurance on my quad and stuff. what do i do as far as the vin # on the frame and motor not matching? do i call my insurance company and tell them i bought a new frame and sold mine and here is the new vin #?

You could grind off the VIN and then use a set of punches to switch VIN #'s so you keep yours and he keeps his.
That would be the best way IMO, but that may be illegal. Actually it probably is.

Well with an insurance company when you get a new frame it's like getting a new vehicle. So you'll probably have to jump through a bunch of stupid technical hoops when in reality it is the same machine.

i don't think matching motors is a problem. atleast not in NY anyways.:D
