ok well i have been pushing my dad into getting a truck. we are curently remodeling almost all of our house and needs to borrow my truck everytime he goes to lowes cuz he doesnt want to hook up the trailer. and we also haul alot in the summer time so instead of using my truck he will have is own. he has decided to get a dodge ram with the hemi just because he likes his power lol but wants to see what kind of mpg it gets. my dads friend says he was only getting 15mpg untill he put exhaust on now he gets 18 and very rare 20mpg

so what are you hemi guys getting
and has there been any problems with the 2006-2008 models

I have straight exhuast and I'm lucky to get 15mpg.

If he wants that kindof millage out of a full size truck he better get a 2wd desiel or a V6.

I also had a ford with the 4.8 v8 and it only got 18. It didn't have a lot of power either.

highway. Mine is a 4x4. You would do a little better with a 2wd but I don't think your gonna see 20mpg no matter what you do.

thats a fantasy...
with a hemi, like stated above, your lucky to see 15 highway.

they have 345hp, you cant expect the greatest gas mileage. my 6.0L 2500HD gets 13 on a great day.

if hes looking for mileage get a 5.3 chevy or a toyota tundra. they seem to be about the best for power to mileage ratio.

my moms Aspen (hemi) gets 13 MPG average

dirtbike&quad

i am averaging 12.5 but i have 20s so its a bit more weight then stock to spin them tires. but otherwise, with the MDS I have seen MANY reports of 26mpg on a long trip. . . closing the 2 cylinders supposedly does a lot for these engines and i really really wish i had them. my truck gets 12.5mpg with anything on the back. it hauls like a dream

his jeep gets 13mpg also has hemi he doesnt want to trade in and get worse mileage than his jeep. he really hates to get something new when his jeep is a 2007 with 20,000 miles but he will use a truck way more than his jeep

If you are set on a Hemi, then you should already aspect what type of mileage you are going to see.

IMO if you wanted a full size truck, with alright fuel mileage and power...get a diesel. Depending on which diesel you would go with would vary your MPG as well...

My 06 F-150 with the 3 valve 5.4 gets 14 city but I had it up to about 18.5 on the highway at 70 mph. Either way gas just hit $4.07 and it's killing me. I just bought an 08 4 cylinder escape to drive to work. It's time to start hi-jacking gas trucks and burning gas stations, lol.

I now drive an F250 7.3 powerstrock 2wd and I get about 18. It is totally stock so once I'm done I expect 20 to 22.

My 2003 Dodge Dakota 4x4 with a 5.9L V-8 gets 12 mpg around town and about 14 to 15 mpg on the highway. I drive it like a little old lady most of the time also. I put a cold air kit and a cat back exhaust on it right after I bought it, picked up about 1 mpg around town, and nothing on the highway.

its not going to be an everyday truck he travels about 100miles a day so he just bought a 94 geo tracker 4 cylinder 1,500bucks only 29,000 miles what a deal gets about 27mpg he will use this truck for camp, hauling, trips to north carolina, stuff like that. i told him he could buy the 85 dodge off me his exact words were K.M.A that thing wouldnt make it out of the driveway haha (i drive it 20 miles a day)

05 f150 5.4 gets 19 mpg. I beat it too! Got a 3.5 cat back, and custom intake. Amsoil helps too! I love this truck, doughnuts in bucket seats is so fun!

A gas saving tip article I wrote....

I see you have a 96 2500 in your sig....Why not put a little bit of money into that truck and use it for towing/playing?

Sure they are only rated for 215HP, but if it is running normal you should be around 20MPG.

And if you wanted more power.. grind the fuel plate down yourself or buy an aftermarket plate, 3k Governor Spring, exhaust, list goes on. You could have yourself a 350-400HP truck pretty quick...and still be better on fuel than most other trucks.

Ya, I took off all the junk, the hose to the fender and big ugly tube. Then I made a part with some rubber and a hose clamp to tee out both sides and put some pvc pipe painted black (to match truck) that is open just behind the headlights. I took out the rubber flap that keeps air flowing to the rad. So at high speeds there is basicly two big tubes right behind the grill that go right into the intake. (filter is still in there, im not that stupid) I am thinking of using a mach 1 hood scoop, but they are so much $. I just think that would look cool, if done right. Tell you one thing, the intake on this truck at 2k to 4k rpm is super loud on W.O.T. I bet you might try this one, but I am also wanting to scrap the whole intake to the throttle body, and just make a mount for a 14" K&n with power lid, retro looking, and still get a ton of air in. I just dont have much time to tinker with it, the truck seems to run good as is so why bother right?

the truck runs great its been garage kept since we bought it new so i really hate to take it out playing. all the kids at my school say i treat it like a baby and i do i hate to ruin a truck that is in such great condition
i would put money into it but if diesel keeps going up i wont be driving it anymore so would be a waste of time and money

Yea that is true, dang Diesel prices these days. Just thought I would mention using the old 12 valve cause you will see a lot better fuel mileage out of that truck than a new hemi. Sure Diesel is more expensive, but you would probably be saving in the long run:cool:

Don't be shocked by the MPGs .... everyone knows Dodge trucks have the worst gas mileage than the other brands.

I ain't being biased either .... my dad has owned nothing but Dodge since 1985 ( 3 trucks ... 85, 94, 06) and I owned a 95 Ram 1500 4x4. They're gas guzzlers and the Hemi took gas guzzling to a whole new level.

i have a 99 f150 2wd lb with a 4.6 all stock and tuned up and im only getting 12mpg in town it sucks but with my dads 06 f350cc sb 6.0 diesel gets 14city and when we went to breezewood 19 on highway

My dad really wanted a diesel because they get better mileage then his 7.4, but now he changed his mind.

He got the GMC, being he couldn't find a good diesel at the time. Now he sees the diesel price, and its probably $50 to fill the diesel then his gas.
