I have a 500 outty and so far I am running full muzzys. I went to my local performance shop and they highly suggested that my next upgrade should be Camshafts by Hotcams. Both cams are about 350 plus 289 for a general service installation. Should that be next my upgrade and is a big increase in hp and torque because its quite expensive.

holy crap! yeah I'd say...that would work out to about 289 per hour shop rate.....I'm in the wrong business....get a manual and do it yourself, if you are not comfortable doing it, find someone to help you, the self satisfaction of learning how to do this stuff is very rewarding.

You really think you could have all the plastic etc taken off that atv, the cams installed, and the body work reinstalled and test rode in an hour. If so you want a job??

on an outlaw? yea actually I do....if I took a coffee break in between and drug my feet....maybe 2 hrs...but that still works out to 144.50 per hr...but back to the point at hand,,,,289 for installing a set of Cams is nuts, and like I said doing it yourself is much more rewarding.

Oh and thanks for the offer, but I'm taken, lol

They said that the valve adjustment is about 200 and they would charge an extra hour for the upgrade cams. So 280.

Yeah $200 for just the valve adjustment is raping you for the amount of work it is.

and on top of that, to adjust the valves on the 500, they need to swap out the shims under the buckets, which means the cams are pulled anyway....so an extra hour to put in the hot cams??? What the heck is the difference which cams they re-install?? It's going to take the same amount of time to put the hot cams back in, as it would to put the stock cams in, which would be part of the original valve adjustment.....I think I would check around

I think there is a lot of confusion here between the 500 and the 525. The 525 valve adjustment is very easy while the 500 has 4 cam buckets that the cams have to be removed to get to the shims.

I can remove the front plastics and fuel tank in less than 5 minutes myself.
