trying to get some info for a buddy
its a stock 07 z400, we ride @ 800' above sea level
whats the stock brand, bore size, main jet size, clip location on the needle, and how many turns out is the air/ fuel screw of the carb?
Then what changes to add k&n, take the air box lid off, and take the sparky out of the muffler.

Sorry its so much, any info would be great!

Mikuni, 36mm, 130, can't change the clip, 2.25 on the fuel screw.

Add 1/4 to 1/2 turn on fuel and put in a 155 main. Should get you in the ballpark.

can we just get away with buying the certain jets ($10) that we think we need or does a full jet kit ($60) come with that many more benifits

It's nice to have the adjustable needle but I think other than that, a jet kit is a waste.

Look on Alba's website in the "Z" section were you can buy the needle, Pilot and a main for like $30 shipped. The adjustable needle is nice for fine tuning but with only an airbox mod you wouldn't really need it.

For $2 a jet I would go to the dealer. Buy a #25 pilot while your there in case you need it. I would get a 155 - 165. Thats 4 jets with the pilot. At this point though without an exhaust you probably won't use the pilot. Only if your fuel screw ends up >3 turns.
