im lookin for a new pipe for the 400,(and i wanted to ask the experts) now ive heard VERY good things about the sparks system, but i need help figurin out which system is the next choice for me... Thanks

I just want to add my opinion of Big Gun. Big piece of Crap! They don't even show a slight power gain over stock on the dyno. Stick with sparks or yoshimura, they are both proven to perform.

idk but i think id go with hmf since it is pretty cheap , great quality and looks, and i heard alot of good things about them...

what is the difference between the white brothers pro meg and the regular e-series anywase?

The Pro-Meg has large diameter head pipe with a reverse megaphone silencer. The E-Series mounts to the stock headpipe w/o the megaphone. The Pro-Meg offers a larger power gain.

My next exhaust system is going to be Yoshimura, full system. IMO--WB quality is severly lacking.

ok, ive just got dont lookin at hmf's site, and it says that the system will give me....

HORSEPOWER

4HP increase @ 3000 RPM
6HP increase @ 4000 RPM
3.5HP increase @ 6000 RPM
4HP increase @ 7000 RPM

TORQUE

8 Ft lbs increase @ 3000 RPM
9 Ft increase @ 4000 RPM
9 Ft lbs increase @ 5000 RPM
4 Ft lbs increase @ 6000 RPM
4 Ft lbs increase @ 7000 RPM

what does all this mean?? is the pipe any good, and how much HP will it give me?

Theres no way the hmf pipes is going to give you 6 hp. Its more like 2 hp with an air filter and jet kit.
I think white makes a good pipe but has a poor design for the mounts. Plus the white makes as power as any othere pipe out there.

Listen, the SPARKS pipe is the best, it looks the best and will give more horsepower than any other pipe out there, and thats a fact.Dont be cheap and buy the best the first time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

well i didnt put in everything... it also has....


200 main jet
3.5 turns out an air/fuel mixture
Raise stock needle to first clip position

and it says the slip on works best with a built motor

I understand I have no money either:p But trust me when I was younger, I always bought what was cheaper and always regretted it.I have a lot of experience with hondas and if I were you I would just save a little more for the sparks, youll be thanking me later:devil I wasnt getting smart, I was just trying to put you on the right track so you wont make the same mistakes I use to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

heres what il do... il save up and get sparks, but i still need money for my other mods unless i wanna race in the stock class

ok, the site says the dmc alien is "alrite" gives around 5hp increase... but what do u guys think?

What engine mods do you have done that you're running a 200 main jet that seems awfull large. What's you're pilot jet size

lrd or hetricks, BEST power,sounds great, looks great,cheaper than sparks.

thats false LRD is a good pipe buit sparks is gonna be the best IMHO.....whoever said to do it right the first time is exactly right..so what if you don't have all the money rght away save up, you will love it much more then any other pipe sparks is a very good engine builder and can't wait for my 416 national kit :devil

hey mx why do you think sparks is a waste? Do you have a lot of experience with them and have you seen bikes dynoed with them on or have you been to a lot of races and gathered info on them?I doubt it!:eek:

i hafta agree... because the dyno sheets prob come rite from the company itself, and like the big gun says it gives 6 hp(the system)
the charts dont mean crap cause suppose u buy it, and u barely notice a difference......like i said when i first made up this thread, my friend has a big gun on his quad, and his exact words are"the pipe actully takes away power" so hes rite in a way

well no pipe you purchase is gonna make you very happy. pipes them selves don't increase a whole lotta power. it's all in tuning and using the right parts with your build. but some one saying lrd is a bad choice is wrong. i have a hetricks and it is the same exact pipe as the lrd and i love the sound, it looks great. and it will flow good with my stroker 440 i am building. if you don't plan on building up the motor over time really all a pipe will change is the sound of the quad and that would be what to aim for.

Mx, first off Im glad to see your a fellow racer, but I race district 7 and I happen to see MANY sparks pipes on the 400s there. Im also not saying that the other pipes you mentiones arent any good, as a matter of a fact I have a lrd on my 250r and I love it! Im just saying the sparks looks great, sounds great, is very sturdy and well built, and in Dirt Wheels mag, it was one of the top pipes for power, I know that the bike had no mods but I know its a good pipe cause I see and talk to a lot of people who use it and was trying to help a fellow honda fan out!:D

I see where you got that information. Without any head work I can't see running a 200 main jet. I got a thumper 440 with ported head stainless valves and stage 2 cam. Without the airbox lid we're at 190 main and 45 pilot and it's rich.
Still playing with the jetting.
Put the lid back on and the main jet drops to 165 with a 42 pilot jet. By the way the pipes a Big Gun.

I have two 400's in the garage, both set up almost identicle, but one has a Sparks Pipe, the other the Duncan Racing Fatboy 4. I have to say they are both awesome, but have different types of power. The DR has more bottom end pull, yet the Sparks has a bit more top end. As far as LRD being bad, no way in HE@#. Those are sweet pipes and would be my 3rd choice, behind the two I have already. And the Alien is decent, but I would go with the DR over it any day. They use the same type of headpipes but the muffler of the Dr is way nicer.
