iv got a 38 tooth on the back and a 14 on the front my question is how much of a difference would it be if i changed to a 42t in the back

theres not a single person that has seen this post that can tell me the difference id be from jumping a 38 T to a 42 T

you will gain more acceleration which then you will lose top speed. if you want more accel you can just move back down to the stock 13tooth front sprocket if you still have it. If you move up in the rear u might want to watch more clearence because on my aftermarket skidplate my chain barely clears it with the stock 38 sprocket.

If you are trying to gear it down you will notice a difference switching to the 42T rear sprocket. If you are trying to gear it up by changing your rear sprocket you need to goto a 36T rear. More teeth up front gives you more topend power, less teeth up front gives you more bottom end power, more teeth on the rear sprocket gives you more bottom end power, less teeth on the rearend is more topend.
