running with no muffler

ok i have just had a gut feeling that riding with no muffler is bad for the motor some how. not saying that i want to do it cause i have an hmf my friend thinks its fun to run just the head pipe. so he cut the muffler off of his kazuma (play thing i guess to mess around on). sure its loud but is this bad for the motor.

The carb will need setting up, if its a 4 stroker it'd be "ok", if its a two stroke they rely on the pipe to get power. But I reaqlly wouldn't advise it.

Usually if they don't set the carb up right (richer or leaner) they tend to run hotter and burn valves. Four strokes use the exhaust to get more power too, if you have no muffler the exhaust sorta just comes out the header. Most mufflers use a "reverse megaphone" design to help scavenge hot gases out of the header so your engine will not only run cooler, but make more power as well.

sure he'll loose power, but it doesnt seem like hes to concerned about performance with that thing anyway :p

I made a pipe for my 300ex it was almost a straight pipe but i used my recipe and its sick you can't not wheelie. but it does run extremely hot, bogs a lil because i didnt jet but you can't gas it enough to bog it without flipping, louder than hell through a megaphone, if you put your hand in the exhaust stream itl blow it back and hold it about 4 feet out. I nailed it perfectly with the angles and all my secrets that i dont want to let out quite yet.

what pipe do u guys and girls think has the most benefits for the 300ex. i have the hmf/ White bros combo and i love it, nice and quiet at idle with a nice grunt. a ton of overall pwoer is added.

I like mine, it's in the picture below. It's quiet at low rpms and loud when high. Nice mean sound too. It has plates so you can adjust for more topend or lowend. Also the plates are great for fine tuning.

running no silencer is just stupid, not making anymore power, just alot more noise. I have 2 pipes that use those discs, actually the original design from supertrapp. The more discs, the more niose and top end(less back pressure), the less discs, the more low end(more back pressure). Tc pretty much copied supertrapps designs(his pipes even have the supertrapp logo on it, beneath the TC sticker), the mid pipe is almost identical, he just bends/welds pipes to fit on to the stock headpipes. Those who have TC(supertrapp) shorty exhaust systems and hate how loud it is, can put on supertrapp 4" end cap and about 10 discs and it will quiet it down alot, without any notice in loss of power.
