got an 01 400ex-mods- bored out, clutch, nerf bars, works shocks, race plastic.
thinking about trying to sell it or trade it ending up with either a Z400, KFX400, or a banshee. what do you guys think??

ah its really up to u and what u like most..
is ur 426 not powerful enough anymore? or are u just bored with the "same old quad"

what kind of riding do u do etc..

as far as reliability we all know the 400ex cant be beaten..
and it definitely has some power especially if u have a 426 properly built/jetted

if after that ur not happy..id honestly do a hybrid with a xr600 or xr650r/l

i think itd be a fun project and definitely have enough balls to do whatever it is u do..

i really enjoy the 400ex as a bike and think its definitely a perfect bike..

the banshee..well 2 strokes are very nice..sound great..very fast top end and i even like the looks of banshees with a lil mods in em..
however they are very expensive to own/mod

the kaw/suz 400 imo is also a nice bike but from what ive read every where u need a newer one to get past the issues early on with those bikes
also they are going to be harder to work on(not as hard a as banshee but definitely harder then a 400ex)

also with the kaw/suz bikes..i just think they are plain ugly..which factors in with me..

thats why i went for the 400ex ..i actually like the look of the older bikes and i think its the best bike all around..price wise and reliability/performance..(mines pretty stock and i definitely want to bore it to a 416 since it seems to be a night n day difference but after that i think id hybrid in the 650L built MAYBE the 650r but that would definitely be a little harder being watercooled etc..)

KEEP THE 426.
:D
after getting some more mods to mine(450r carb, ported&polished, different exhuast, ect) its awesome for trails, around the yard, fields, anything IMO. plenty of power and great handleing, i probably wouldnt trade it for any ofthe listed above+cash. maybe thats just me though.
only reason i would think not to own a 400ex is if youre going to race mx or drag or something where more power/ different suspension&handling are needed.

I would only trade my stock 400ex for a 450r. I dont know what you ride,so cant really say.

If you buy suspension it will feel like a whole different quad

IMHO, keep the 400ex.

Suzuki's and Kawasaki's are junk, i can honestly say.

I would think about trading for a banshee, but if I was going through all that trouble, id look for one with shocks/a-arms.

you do relize your in a 400ex forum right?lol but on that note.....keep the EX. i agree with Honda#4, get some suspension. it will be 1000000% percent worth it.

they are great quads,it just takes a little time to lean to work on them. once you do so updates they are strong.you can get an updated one for as little as $2000.i have a cannondale that has 101 hrs on the hour meter since i put the motor together.and still going strong.
