can a kx250 beat a 440 on the track? or in a drag race? becasue of the top end and the powerband acceleration?

Around that. My 200sx ran 86 mph on our radar gun compared to the mid 70's that the 450 quads were putting out. The only quad that they had that would come close to me was a banshee. It got me in top speed, but I had him the whole time until I ran out of gears. I'm not big on drag racing though.

depends alot on where you race...the z will hook up alot better than you will since the power is being put to (2) footprints that are each 3 times the size of your back tire....
on the street you should def take off quicker if you know how to work the clutch and keep the front end down..but i think it would be a good race..

never in my life have I seen a z440 or a 450 beat a 250... even on loose stuff. A 125 would probably keep close to a z400. I know 134's will beat 450's. A 250 compared to pretty much any stock/slightly modded quad in a line drag is pretty much not going to keep up. How do you figure the Z would have more top end than a Kx 250?

Thats pretty funny, cause i have yet to loose to a 250 2- stroke ( raced YZ's and CR's.) KX will be NO different. I've been riding for a year and a half, the guys i race have been riding between 5-10 years (and they know how to ride). I can put my power to the ground easier and quicker than the guys on the 2 - strokes. The same goes for the trx250r, i own them.

What's funny is seeing a kx 134 wax a 450r's ***. If you're "owning" 250's, something is wrong. More power and half the weight. On my last KTM there wasn't a 450 that would touch me and I raced some fairly modded ones. They had nothing. Heck I thought they were on a 300ex because they were so far behind!

i find it kind of hard to believe reptike, that your 450r would beat a 250 2 stroke like you say. they are monsters and unless your 450 is built than you must have mistaken them for 125's:D

naw i raced at an old airort on my stock geared 98 RM 250 and my engine mods went like this Full FMF ..V force reeds...mild porting and polishing (nothing too special)..Twinair ..aftermrkt Keihien race carb (i know thats not how you spell it) i had the powervalve set up to make good power in the midrange after the tire had gotten a chance to hook up..
at the airport i raced a 06 YFZ with a full Ballance edition Carbon fiber pipe... cam mod ...K&N.. and it had 15 or 14 tooth front sproket..i think it was 15
alonng with a v force a ...KTM 250 EXC both stock
the KTM 250 always got me if my shifts werent spot on the KTM's have a 6 speed gearbox which akes a big difference(my RM didnt have an amazing top end so ya had to short shift its 5spd
now for the real competition the yfz..we raced on realll losse gravel and he had some half decent RZR 2's and id just start in 2nd and by the time im about to shift to 4th im about a bike lenght ahead... but once we start going through the gears hed catch up and id easily get into 5th before him but when he gets to 5th and starts winding it out he starts to get away from me.... id after im pinned and he gets in front and keeps pulling i give up in fear of blowing the bike up (it was my harescramble racing bike and i didnt have a backup) now that 450 was geared high but to get real use out of the power for drag racing gearing it high helps cuz it means less tire spin becasue the torque is being used to get that big ole sproket goin first where as the stock 13 doesnt take nearly as much

I still find it hard to believe that a 250 will loose to a 450 quad. Granted the 450 quads are not slow by any means, but they just don't compare to a bike, even in the loose stuff. I've raced quads in loose gravel stuff and yah it sucked starting out, but once 3rd gear got settled in, it was game over scooter.

A 250 will beat a 450.. but against a well built 450 quad , it would be close untill the top end then a bike would pull away. A 250 stroke is only 42 horse on our local dyno. we have well built 250f's in the low 40's.
Since when can a quad hook up better than bike traction wise either? :eek2: :eek2: Bikes hook up twice as better as quads.

^^ thats what i was thinking. on a bike you have all your weight over one area as opposed to a quad its spread out. idk though??

First, No mistaken identity's. Its my boys that i race. My boy Ryan got an 89' yz250 and 01' cr250 (owned) my boy Conrad has a kx125 (joke), my boy allen has 90's model yz250 (owned) And last but not least my boy Jeremy has an 86' trx250r with an 89' long rod motor bored out, cool head, port & polish, Genesis "Big Air" Carb, CDI, pipe with Pro-Curciut silencer, fresh top end and bottom, OH WAIT, CAN YOU SAY OWNED!
Second i don't have to lie to kick it to anybody on here, you don't believe me o'well i won't lose sleep over it. And NO my 450r is not built. There is a little race track at TRI-COUNTY if any body goes up there. Or we can put it on the pavement, don't matter to me.

No offense to your boys, but it's likely their lack of riding ability that's causing you to win, in the drag race especially.
Try switching bikes with them and see what happens. Either that or those bikes aren't tuned well at all.
I have extensive seat time on the 450r and I'm the owner of an '01 cr250. The 450's quick but the 250's a beast. It'll easily out drag it in anything from deep sand to asphalt.

A stock 250 puts out around 42+ horse depending on brand. KTM quoted the 2004 ktm 250sx at 48 hp. It's not unusual to 250's in the 50hp range. When I had my 200sx (when it was dynoed, it came in at 44hp) and I didn't have a problem ripping apart any 450 quad. The only thing that kinda kept up was a banshee. I had him the whole time until I ran out of gear, then he would start to creep up on me.
the kx has less weight more power, the 440 has more weight less power, its called common sense.

alright this is getting pretty sad, a 250 s-stroke dirtbike is faster then any 450 stock for stock and mod for mod, keep in mind that they are both running to full ability. that first video retike, i could smell the unburned gas coming from that 250, you look at the end, its spewing smoke out, very rich and lots of power loss, that raptor and honda in the second vid was close, that raptor had some **** done to it for sure though, but if the race was longer the raptor would have been left. and the third video looked like the guys were scared lmao. I am just trying to say that no quad will do what a 250 2-stroke bike can do stock for stock and mod for mod, unless that was a banshee or quadzilla of corse. 4-strokes have rev limiters, and bumping the tires and gearing up can only do so much, where when you pipe a and filter a 2-stroke it will allow it to gain more top speed from no rev limiter, the the "flowability" of the pipe and intake on a 2-stroke is the rev limiter. if you want a fair race on a bike it would be a 125 and a 450 quad
the 250 2 stroke dirtbikes used to be on par or have a little more power than the 450 4 strokes. Now nobody can race the 250 2 strokes with the 450 4 strokes anymore because they developed ways to get more power and to be faster than the 250's. The AMA even said it themselves.

IMO thats BS to get people to lay off 2-strokes because of emissions. tell them something that isn't true, but to each their own. still even if you have a 4-stroke with more power which is rare mod for mod, the power to weight ratio is still beatin by 2-strokes. The mods for 2-stroke are also more power effiecient.
I LOVE 2-strokes, i love my banshee, i love the smell, the sound, the feeling, the cheapness and easy maint. but i have to say, 4-strokes are whats being focused on right now so they are getting ways to get great power out of them, if you took the new brains and technology being put into the 4-strokes and put it into a 2-stroke i am sure lots a better ways can be developed for more power, even if its just little changes. But 2-strokes are being dropped so no one focuses on them as much which is a shame because they never even hit their peak before they got bust for being smokers :D

In the videos reptikes posted, those bikes aren't jetted worth crap. Even with crappy video quality you can hear the jetting is off.
Last year all I had done to my Banshee was Reeds, Filter and Pipes. Two friends of mine had their 450ER's, one had a 250R racing trike, and the other a stock 250r trike. One of the 450's had the baffles removed out of his exhaust but I'm assuming that does nothing...but anyways.
Another friend of mine purchased a CR125 last spring and one time we were out riding around and decided to see what that bike could do. It was on hard packed, and well he stayed beside me the entire time until I started to pull on him through 5th. That being said, and being as I could beat 450r's with my simple mods, and the 125 could stay with me...pretty sure his 125 would give those 450 a good run.
So IMO, yes a 250 2 stroke bike will beat a z440. Unless the person riding the 250 doesn't know anything about jetting, gearing, shifting properly...

the ama has killed the sport by pretty much killing 2 strokes themselves. Now that the 250 2ts are running with the 250 4ts, everyone is b!tching up a storm. I think it's awesome! Almost makes me want to go get my 200sx back. AMA is full of *****. It's all about money to them. Motocross is dead. It has now been replaced by moneycross.
I guess no one buys 250 2 strokes anymore though... Maybe that's why every local shop here doesn't have one 08 on their showroom floor and they have an order list for them. Cernic's has sold more 250's than their 450's.

You can't go wrong with either one of those choices. If you're going for a yzf, get an 06 and up. 05's are good, but 06's are better.
