I picked up the parts required to complete the 400EX front spindle and 250R caliper conversion, or so I thought... I bought what I was told was a set of 400EX spindles, hubs, and rotors, and then I also bought a set of PRP 250R brake caliper adaptors. The thing is, the adaptors don't line up with the holes on the spindles. Are there different year 400EX spindles? Different year adaptors?

Here are some pics of the spindles, hubs, and rotors that I bought.

Here is a pic of the adaptor.

Here are some pics trying to show how the bolt holes don't line up.

Here is a pic of the setup that was advertised by the seller of the adaptors with his 400EX hubs.

Any help here with this would be greatly appreciated. Or else I just wasted a bunch of money...

After looking at these pictures, these do not appear to be 400EX spindles...:grr:

Ugh... now what?

Hmm... They could be. Can anyone confirm what these spindles are off from?

I don't know 450R's very well, but it seems like I remember hearing that they changed something with the spindle setup from the earlier years to the later years. Can anyone identify which year they're from if they are in fact 450R?

I was looking into the 450R front end on a 250R and what not, and from what i've seen online the rebuild kits for the front calipers on the 250/450 are the same. I was leading myself from what i found that the 250R calipers will work on 450R spindles. Although i cant be sure.

hope it works out for you

If you look at the spindles you have closely, you'll see they have the casting "HP1" on them. This is the Honda product code for a 450R. A 400EX spindle should have "HN1" on it.

After looking even closer, those are from an 04-05 450R. Something else to keep in mind, 400EX hubs will NOT work on those spindles, the backspacing on the hub is incorrect. In fact if anyone is considering swapping over to a 450R front brake system, the hubs and spindles must match. 04-05 will not work on 06 and newer and vice-versa.

Rich250r is right. In 06, Honda changed the spindles, hubs, and upper a-arms on the 450r. You have to use 04/05parts or 06-newer together. To answer the other question, 450r calipers will not fit the 250r spindle. The Rotors are a differend diamater (I think) and the two bolt holes are off by about 3/8". I thought the same thing, so my brother and i took off his calipers and treid to put it on my spare 89 spindles, its close but it wont work.

I have a complete 04-05 450R setup on my '03 Lonestar, I don't know if I would do it again. I can't get enough camber adjustment in it without binding the ball joints. I ride it and race it as it is, but you can see the tops of the tires leaning out slightly. I have Lonestar arms, maybe another brand would be better. I've even tried an '06 and newer setup, and it's even worse.

What type of arms did you have the 450R setup on? I'm in the process of building a MX LSR chassis 250R. I'm using the LSR DC-4's, hopefully they will work :ermm:

They are Lonestar arms on a Lonestar chassis. There's no problem with the arms fitting, the problem is using the 450R spindles where 250R spindles are supposed to go.
