ok i tried searching for this well two things. i am going to be putting a high compression piston and a hotcam in, proli a stage 2. will i be able to replace the timing chain without splitting the cases? also with the cam i know that hotcam says you dont 'need' to replace the valve springs, but should i?

You have to take the clutch cover off as well as the clutch basket and a few gears. The camshaft is designed to use your stock internal parts but if there worn out or outta spec then replace them.

Never wait till it blows up cuz then it will even cost you more money to rebuild the motor, but yes it can be done without spliting the cases. The XR gasket should work with the 07
