Well I finished my 2nd moto last sunday and noticed my tire was wobbly when I pulled off the track. I pulled my plug out of the rims and all the lug nuts were off and I was left with this. I'm going to order a set of hipers here this week.

that happens when you dont put the flat side of the nut against the rim

on most factory and aftermarket nuts they have a taperd side and a flat side those type of rims require the flat side

The flat side was against the rim. Washers would have prevented this.

ooooo, maybe they were a lil loose through the race? I don't think the washers would have made that big a difference. I use to run those wheels and hated em' I love my hipers. I got a set of 250r spline rears I could sell ya. what kinda bike is it?

they are 8" dual bead

Yeah those wheels are so soft when I tighten them the edges dig into the rim. I thought washers myght prevent them from digging into the soft aluminum. No big deal now though. I'm ordering my hipers tomorrow. It was on my 450r. I'm thinking lime green rings..haha should look sweet.

Anytime you use a flat lug nut instead of tapered you should always have a washer on it. But that wouldn't have prevented it. Thats just what happens if your nuts comes loose.

Aye.
But perhaps having a washer would have helped the nuts from coming loose since the nuts wouldnt dig into the aluminum creating a gap.

Drilling hols inbetween could work, but then you've got a valve stem in the way also.

Hipers are great. If you get Tech3 hipers, be sure to ge tthe ITP style deep well lug nuts. They work great.

The 14mm flange nuts that are supposed to be used for aluminum wheels dont dig into the rim like the stockers do. stockers just eat the aluminum as you're tightening them, yes even with the flat side against the rim. Use the flange nuts. RMATV sells them dirt cheap. Every time I put an order in I buy extras.

What's wrong with drilling out the wheels with the new pattern offset from the factory one? I've redrilled plenty of rims.

That's what I was thinking the factory has to drill holes in the rims so why cant you. unless you just want an escuss to spend money.

That is exactly what I am doing to keep them as a spare set of rims. Don't the hiper rims have a tapered hole like the stock rims? Or is it flat?

The CF1's have tapered inserts that use a tapered lugnut.
The Tech3's have a milled, flat lugnut surface.

I figure if you're spending $800+ on wheels you may as well buy some decent looking lug nuts.. lol.

Here's a pic of ITP flat faced lugnut. (They also sell a Tapered Version)
