Im thinking about trading my 04' trx450r for a CRF450R or CRF250R. I don't know which would be best at what i want to do.
I do a little of everything, but mainly hillclimbs, and FFFFFFFFFFFast trails. What would be the best year to go for between 02'-04' or maybe even an 05' ? And Why?

Thanks,
Mike

well the 250s are fast but the 450s just flat out haul the 450 would probably be the best for hills cuz they have more torque

A friend, who loves climbing hills prefers a 250 to a 450 because he said the 450 makes it too easy. Owns both a YZ250F and CRF450

i would go with the 450, and i dont think that the 450s eat valves too often. and the 450 goes up hills better but the 250 is more challenging, but you can just go and get a crazy hill to climb that the 250 wouldnt have a chance

Is that all years ? Wouldn't they do something to correct that after like 7 years?!

maybe think about one of the X versions if your doing trails and hills. i think its the crf250x and crf450x. the crf2&450r's are straight up MX bikes. theres not really a size difference, just more power in a 450 so id say go with one of them.

its mainly the 02/ 04 , the 250s were realy high maitnece the 450 were alittle more durable, like i said a yz450f or 250f are both great bikes and have tough motors.

If i don't can't get a good CRF450r it'll be a YZ450f. The Crf450r wins all the shootouts, and is suppose to have the best bottom end (and i love hillclimbs). Plus i haven't heard anything bad about them until the valve thing in this thread.

the yz450f is a great bike for the money i had a 99 yz400f that still had the original bottom end and and the topend was just as old i beleve and i dont run my bikes easy and i got rid of that bike 3 months ago :D yamaha reliabilty

Whats the difference between the CRF450r and the CRF450x or say the YZ450f and the WR450?

wr is the trail version of the yz the wr has a usable gear raito suted for trail or high speed riding were u have a low first gear and a high 5th gear { wide ratio} and u have lights, speedo, electric start , 18 inch rear wheel etc... same with the crf x they also make great street legal bikes thats something im tring to save money for now

I still don't understand the difference ? I like going real fast, i love mean crazy hillclimbs. Would i know the difference between the two? Is one more powerfull, or faster or WHAT?

if price or year or anything of that matter didnt make a difference, i would be going to get a CRF 450X, think of it as a 2006 quad engine but its a lil bit better, and it has headlights and tail lights, electric start, and what not. and the way gas prices are here, it sounds like it would be cool to make it street legal.

theres no difrrence in power after u rejet the wr or crf x and uncork it and a aftermarket pipe but the x or wr will have a higher top speed due to the tranny is geared WIIDDEE

deff. get a honda or kawi. they dont eat valves like crazy at all as long as you check em every once in awhile. all bikes need the typical maintenance.;)

yeah yamaha yz450f is a lower maitnece bike with he honda if u want the valves to last longer u will need to check them often to make shure they stay in spec , bascicaly it comes down to whut u want but 450 yamaha and 450 honda there both fast and alsome bikes but u know wut bike i would choose, im not biased towards brands

haha have you ever ridden a crfx? I think my buddy's clapped out kx80 would hang with one.

the 450's are easier to ride and require less effort. You don't have to rev them nearly as much as you would a 250f. Yes, the honda 250f's are notorious for eating valves. Especially 04 and down. Stray away from them. Reliablilty wise from what I've seen/heard/owned, the new kxf's and 03+ yzf's are great. The older rmz/kxf's had tranny problems in 04/05, but if I were to get a brand new 250f, it'd be an rmz for sure.

I'm more than happy with my yzf that I have now. It's a great bike.

I've had my 2005 crf 250 since 2004 and its been great to me. I started off mainly racing motocross but after a few injuries, the past 2 years have been mainly trails. The low end torque is amazing for tight windy trails and hills. If you maintain these bikes properly, they will be very reliable, but if you get lazy on routine maintenance (air filter, oil, etc.) the valves will be sure to go just like any other 4-stroke motocross bike. I love the low end power in practically every gear on my 250.

the reason the 80 hung with the crfx was becuz of all the crap they do to get a green sticker and pass all the emisions, after u uncork it and power it up there whole diffrent bikes like the wr has a throtle stop that limits it to half throttle...

yah some guys put the throttle stops on the yzf's if their kids are young and just starting out. I'd rather have the yzf come uncorked in stock trim though, but that's just me. Even with lights and quads, I very very very rarely do night riding. If I was going the route of a dual sport, The only two I'd consider are the drz 400's the Xr's. Those Xr's literally run forever.
