I was reading In my motosports book and i was reading that a 15/36 Gear ratio gives you highier top speed and hogher top speed. Would that be The best ratio for a 2001 300ex and what would be the best sprocket

i dont know if your still wondering but...
15/36 is VERY tall gearing for a stock motor to pull, and i do belive you would have to shave a little off of the case for clearance issues,

remember tire sizes have the same affect as gearing, so 15/36 with stock 22'' wheels would be like suicide for a stock 300 motor,

if your running 22 rears i wouldnt go any higher than 14/38

or if your running 20'' rears id suggest nothing higher then 14/36

again i dont know anything about your motor so this is a broad generilization but you get the idea

heres a gearing calculator that will give you the general idea of how sprockets, rev-limit, and tire sizes will affect speed,

but remeber with more top end, the less bottom end youll have

If you are running stock tires, or 22" tires, honestly the stock gearing is perfect.

You're rarely going to need more than 55mph in the woods.
If you're riding open straitght trail then you could go with 14/38 or 13/36 for a bit more top end, but you're going to lose some acceleration and usable power on big hills, etc..

I'm running 13/36 gearing on my 330cc w/ 20" Razr's (they are really almost 22" O.D.). I have an increased rev limit wich will get me up to about 65mph, but I rarely hit that unless I'm in the dunes or a long open field.

ack.. is that a dynojet jet (I hope)? Or a keihin jet? If it's a keihin jet you need a larger mainjet, honestly. The stock jet is a 122.

If it's a 120 DynoJet you may be ok if you're running airbox lid on. Airbox lid off (or vented) you need the DJ128.

a 14 tooth sprocket should not dig into the cases. i run 14/36 and can still fit a case saver infront of my sprocket.
