According to this site the small block I have is 302 cubic inches, and out of a 1969 Z 28. I just have to check for cylinder head serial numbers. Very interesting...

If you really have a 302 you have something that worth some money.

Are you redoing a 69-z/28?If not I would sell that motor and use the profit.(There will be some)

And build something else.

However a 302 uses the same block as a 350.Both have the same 4" bore.So unless you have the short 283 crank in it.I bet you have a 350.

Are you looking up casting # 3970010?

If so I have the same motor as you and it's a 350.302's also had this casting #.If the heads are 882's I don't believe it would be a 350.I think that 302's came with 041 heads on them.

BTW...Even if it is a 350 that is a good block. They have a higher nickel content than other motors.I am not sure if all the 010 blocks have this. But is you look behind the timing chain there will be another 010 and possible an 020.If you have both of these #'s behind the timing chain you have a factory high nickel block.Doesn't do anything for power. But if you really gonna hop it up and get alot of power out of it.That might help.

The motor has never been apart. It came out of a Camaro. I had a relative that owned the car, and wrecked it in the early 70's. I was 4 at the time, so I have no idea what type of Camaro it was. My Uncle that owned the car has since passed away, and now the motor and tranny are mine. A 1964 to 1967 327 long block also came with the 302. I don't know what the 327 was in. I am currently looking thru his garage to find the stock intake from the 302. It's not a 350. The block serial number ends in DZ. 67, 68, and 69 only for 302's. 67 and 68 were small journal cranks, and 69 was large. The motor is very low milage, also. The casting # is 3956618. The block casting # is B2968. February 29, 1968. I don't think you can tell when it was assembled.

Wow you have something special there!

Are you putting it back in a camaro?A DZ302 is worth alot of moola if you find the right person. And 69 camaro's are hot. They have been for years.I have one in my basement and people stop by and ask me if it's for sale.Never said it was.People are nuts about those cars.

That is really sweet. You got any pics of it?

You got me exicted now!

No pics. It's nothing to look at. It's sitting on an engine cradle. No valve covers, distributer, water pump, or intake are installed on it. It's been covered up for the last 30+ years in a heated garage. I have no plans to do anything with it. I want to get all the parts out of the garage for the 302. The tranny is a Muncie. Not sure which one, yet. It is a 4 speed. There is a dual hi rise aluminum intake with a pair of Holley carbs on the shelf, though...

You are one lucky fella!

If you don't have anything to put that stuff into I would buy something to put it into!

I scrape and scrounge for my racecar parts and you get them free! That's awesome.

Like I said buy a car and make something out of that stuff. There awesome parts!
