Im still running the stock rear shock. I been using a 450r rear shock but i blew it out. Im going to put the 400 shock back in and i was wondering how you guys have it set up in stock form.

Wheres the comp and rebound set at. Did you mess with the preload at all? im 155lb w/ gear

I ride jersey sand. Lots of big whoops and i swap all over the place . :macho

Set it at 50% sag with your body weight on it and set the compression a little softer then the rebound.

50% sag seems like a lot no? Wouldnt that be half of you travel just sitting down on the bike? Maybe I'm thinking wrong but i thought it was 1/3 sag which is usually about 4 inches + or -

I wouldn't do any less then 40% and I've found this shock to like 50% the best. I'm a big dude too and it has no problem taking what ever I toss at it. It's a far better ride then stock settings.

The problem with stock shocks is the springs you cant have the best of both things. Either you have it setup for whoops and you cant take jumps or you have it set up for jumps and you cant take the whoops. I set mine somewhat inbetween slightly more on the whoops side so I cant ar it out like I normally would.

i weigh 175, and i am running the preload all the way out with the compression stiffened all the way and the rebound at about 80%

great set up for whoops

I'm 250lbs........Preload set to max, compression set to soft (1 turn in from all the way soft), for smooth landings on big jumps and the rebound set the same as compression for fast rebounding action on the whoops so it doesn't pack up. I take some big jumps but lots of deep whoops in 5th pinned.

how and where do you adjust the rear shock? I weigh around 115 (soon to be freshman) and I want to adjust my rear. I have an 04

Why were you using a 450r shock the 400ex rear shock is actually better, the 450 rear is pretty much the same thing just not as long as the 400ex stocker. I run the rebound all the way slow, preload all the way out for low ride height, and compression im not sure

Another option is to get a +1 or 2" swingarm. Extra length really helps stability in the whoops.
