Wow this is very unhealthy for our sport. WPSA had us on ESPN. I thought ATV racing was growing but now were right back where we started. I am probably wrong but this is the way it seems. I hope another league picks up where the WPSA left off, and try to expand our sport and make it popular.

Sucks for all the Teams , racers and families that have invested thousands into the Side X Sides and for the QuadTerrain challenges .

ATVA doesn't run SxS , right?

it wouldn't surprise me at all if some factory teams get out of it or drop a few riders now....

I heard this a few months back that WPSA was having financial complications and the possibilty of folding was high. I guess I just had faith that they would pull thru and fix whatever it was that had to be fixed to keep things going.

I think that having WPSA drop from the industry is a horrible thing for all of us in the quad market and racing community. WPSA brought tons of eyes to the sport and along with that came sponsorships, factory support and fans from all walks of life.

I hope the AMA and ATVA will look at this as a open door to get things underway in their sanctioned events and get the ball rolling. All of us know we've got something good going, and I find that the atv industry is built upon a close community of riders, racers and sponsors alike. I hope in some way shape or form that we can all keep it going and make the push to have OUR sport one day become a mainstream sport.

Just my 02., hope it makes sense.......

That really sucks about the wpsa. Its sad to see something that appreared to be on top of its game to fold like this. I know alot of riders jumped on the wpsa and said the heck with the gnc series. I would like to just say Hats off to Joe Byrd to sticking to where he believed in. Im going to leave it at that.

This news about the WPSA is bad for the ATV Racers as well as us that race Sno-Cross with them. We have been racing Sno-Cross with the WPSA for several years. The WPSA national tour is where ALL the Factory pro's raced and they also sanctioned State Regional Races as well, which we run. (WPSA Michigan Regional Sno-Cross).

We heard alot over the last couple years that the WPSA was not paying racers their rpize money and when they did it was not in a timely fashion. They also have not paid track workers from all the races this past winter.

This seems like the SECOND time that they have run themselves out-of-business. WPSA was formerly knows as WSA. Now the attached article says nothing of the additional partner, but I remember it when it happened. We remember talk of going out then.

How do you take all the money that they get from memberships, race entries, sponsors and such and run it out of money????
TWICE?????

WSA Renames, Plans ATV Racing Tour

Powersports Business
Tuesday December 6, 2005

The World Snowmobile Association, the eight-year-old governing body for numerous regional and national snowmobile competitions, plans to expand its sanctioning involvement to include national professional ATV racing events, along with its popular Snocross events. To reflect this expanded vision, the sanctioning body is now called the World PowerSports Association (WPSA). As a result, two new brands have been created, the “PowerSports Snowmobile Tour” and the “PowerSports ATV Tour.”

Additionally, the WPSA's parent company has been renamed PowerSports Entertainment, Inc. The company headquarters will remain in White Bear Lake, Minn.

“We are pleased to expand and enhance our role in the powersports racing industry with the unveiling of PowerSports Entertainment, Inc.,” said newly named PowerSports Entertainment, Inc. CEO Rick Murphy. “The organization has experienced many positive changes during the last several months. Those changes represent a renewal of our dedication to accomplishing our core objectives: increased national awareness, television viewership and fan attendance. Most importantly, as part of our overall goals, we have significantly enhanced our snowmobile and ATV-related television programming.

“Our television broadcasts will begin airing with the (10-race) Snowmobile Tour in January on a major cable television network and will run for consecutive weeks in virtually the same time slot,” added Murphy. “The new television package will feature action-packed racing, as well as giving our fans the inside scoop on our riders and teams.”

The company secured a similar 10-race programming package for the ATV Tour.

Along with a comprehensive marketing and public relations effort to support the Tours, several sponsors continue to contribute to the growth of the sport. Participation from Ski-Doo, Arctic Cat and Yamaha has expanded this season, while the U.S. Air Force, AMSOIL, Parts Unlimited and others have also increased sponsorship involvement.

Last season, more than 300,000 fans attended Tour events and upwards of 3,000 competitors participated at a regional or national level. Fan opportunities include autograph sessions and paddock access, VIP viewing programs, demo rides, vendor displays, immersive games, and trail rides at select venues.

The WPSA also is in the process of redeveloping its web site, www.wpsaracing.com, to include inside information on the tours, as well as live timing and scoring, and streaming audio and video.

When we ran our final National race for Sno-Cross in lake Geneva, Wisconsin, March 14-15 I believe it was, I saw NO camera crews, and I had heard that WPSA "OWED" ESPN or Speed Vision $2,000,000.00..........
