It wont be the same build without Codys help, but we have started back on his 300ex as of this evening. We started with a 2007 300EX, and wanted to add enough goodies to make it handle better in the woods for GNCC racing.

We will also be making it a tad bit wider with some 400ex Burgard HD arms and JB Racing shock mount. This go around we opted to use 400ex spindles and they got Molycoated today. I plum ran out of what I usually use so we went with gloss and plain moly for the shafts.

This build would have taken 2 days and we would have competed at last weekends GNCC on this machine however with Codys injuries, we now have a bit more time. We added some Pro Taper bars and grips, the bars were an old set that we re-coated for a new look.

Cody actually got to help alot with the little we were able to do on this build, but he wasnt sure of himself when it came time to relocate the key and neutral/reverse lights:p

I will post more and there will be some how to articles in that section posted over the next few weeks for those wanting to see how to install a few items. We will also be adding some more power to the 300 in teh form of a piston and cam and we will be sure to get some step by step shots of the process.

those grips look very comfy. how do they feel pappy do they have any firmness to em or are they just like mush.

Pappy

I like them alot, not to soft, not to hard. Cody is the most PITA rider when it comes to grips and bars and he refuses to run anything but these after trying them in late 2007.

ill have to give them a try if they get the cody seal of approval. what comp piston and what kinda cam you gonna put in it.

Pappy

He is doing ok, lots of sitting around for the first 2 weeks when he isnt at the doctors etc. He is mobile with crutches and a wheel chair which has him highly pissed off because he cant do much. He put his nerf nets on while I installed his steering damper but was mad he couldnt install them himself:p

Cody came outside today and while I was working in the shop I saw him trying to install his nerfs from his chair. Seeing they were AC nerfs, I knew he didn't stand a sno-balls chance in hell of getting then on, heck it took me an hour:ermm:

If you want to run aftermarket heel guards youll need to get IMS footpegs for a 300ex and IMS heelquards for a 400ex. The heel guards mount on with one tiny mod to one of the mounts to the plastic/frame.

But im sure you already knew that. ;)

I built a 300ex from scratch a few years ago.

Are you allowed to do suspension mods even if there not for a 300ex? 450r shocks with a upper frame shock relocation bracket and the rear shock from a raptor 660 is a killer cheap setup!

Thats what we have done to our custom 300ex.

The AC's will mount with the stock heel gaurd, built many of them. Stock can be replaced for pennies off ebay when they get trashed.

We are running a Stadium rear, no raptor shock for us

And yes, we can run the relocator bracket and be legal

Bolted the front end on tonight, will work more on it tomorrow :p

With the weekend here, I had a little time away from work to help him finish most of the major stuff. The stadium shock fitment was poor, if I would have known it was going to need the frame worked on for clearence i would have just ripped down the quad and then coated the frame.

Just waiting on parts but the majority is complete

Is going to be a mx or xc quad and what kind of front end is that?

pappy a little off topic...but did you ever end up doing anything with that 250r you got back a while ago or did you sell it?

Pappy

We finished the Raptor in January, and 4 rounds of racing later its ready to be parted out (frame bent all lower a-arm mounts cracked etc etc) Time to get back on something i do not have to wrench on after every race. Wont be as trick, but hopefully will be solid enough to old up to what he is dishing out:p

d&b- only R's I have here are in boxes to be built on a rainy day

pappy i think you guys should cut the fenders. What bumper are you putting on also?

Pappy
05-06-2008, 06:44 PM
Rath will get the nod for a front bumper

The fenders are fine, one of the biggest issues we had with the Raptor 250 was mud deflection during the races.

Thanks, I will be sure to wheel him over to see it for himself:p

I know he has a mega hard on to ride anything, its killing him not being able to and I feel sorry for this quad as he will be relentless on it once he is cleared to ride:p
