I have a 86 250r and a cr500. I would like to put the 500motor in the quad frame. I know it has been done, I would like to know if anyone has some info on how to over come some of the issues, like cooling, direction of the kick start, no counterbalancer,,, Thanks for any input.

should be pretty nice. my friends cr500 has 65 hp to a single wheel stock. thats pretty sick. but with the quad it will be to 2 wheels so it might seem like less. put some videos online and pm me the link when its done.

I know quite a few people that have put CR500 motors into some sort of quad frame, and NONE of them are happy with the outcome long-term.

It's the same story. Really fast, really cool, lots of vibration (the cr500 motor is not counterbalanced).

Before long the novelty wears off, but the vibration is still there. Numb hands and feet, and the occassional frame repair because the vibration WILL cause it to crack. Before long, they just stop riding it.

I've known people that have done several CBR motors into quad frames, and several dirtbike motors. But I've never known anybody to repeat their cr500 motor. Anybody that does it says they will never do it again.

The whole reason I bought the 500, was to put it in the R, but once I rode it, I fell in love with the power. I have heard of the frame cracking issues, I don't understand why my hands would go numb on the quad, but not on the bike? I figure if it doesn't work I could always put it back. Thanks again for the input, and yes if it does work I will post some videos

The guys that have had the best outcome have custom built anti-vib front motor mounts, and installed an antivib steering stem.

Could always add a swinger, axle, custom trippleclamp, and front axle to make an ATC500R. Now that would be one sweet dune ride.

The design of the bikes allows them to handle vibration much better.

Good idea with the ATC 500r! I figured I would have to dampen the handle bars, but I am not sure how to do the motor mounts. I am told that Service Honda sells a 400ex with a '01 250r motor, they just gusset the frame. They even have a reverse kick start. Maybe the whole thing is a bad idea, I am just addicted to power, and the four strokes just don't cut it. they have come along way just not enough for me. Thanks again for your input

About the SH 400EX with the '01 CR250R engine.....I've got a '95 CR250R that uses that same engine. I've also got a CR500R. The 250 feels smooth as silk compared to the 500. Neither are counterbalanced but one of the things I prefer about the 250 is how much less vibration there is. There's a HUGE difference. So I wouldn't be influenced by what SH offers.

The vibes bother me at times on the 500 even in a two wheeled package. I can understand wanting to harness that 500 power (POWER!) though.

my cousin in canada just put a yz250 in his blaster on youtube search yz250 blaster. i was wondering how much work it is to change a motor. like say pout a 2 stroke dirtbike motor in it. do u need cutting and welding?

Why doesn't anyone ever think to do an LT500R motor in a 250R frame? Then you'd get the displacement WITH a counterbalancer! DUH! :p

The LT is extremely tame compared to the bike engine. They are also really hard to find, and I would not let the person you are buying the quad from know you plan on ripping the engine out, lol. SH also sells a CR500 dirtbike engine in a 250r bike frame. Now that would be a sweet ride.

So? They can be built, like any other engine.

I've actually seen the Quadzilla/250R hybrid a couple of times on eBay about the time I was thinking of doing one. Of course, this was when I had no play money.

One was a national racer, too. (or so they said.

BTW, I totally realize you'll want the later generation motor, for durability. ;)

Too bad you can't make those street legal. A 500 supermoto would be awesome!

SH uses a CRF250R chassis, not CR250.
