16 tooth is the biggest ive heard of in the front and you could also go smaller in the rear

What about woods ridin? The trails are not all that tight, and you can move on pretty good.

16/36 works good or 15/36

You definantly need top end for the woods. Just keep it in one gear and you can rev up really fast where your quad isn't going to lug the whole time. I had a 14/38 setup for the woods and it worked pretty well on my stock motor. I am running a 15/38 now with a 416 kit and a hotcam stage 2.

The woods is my home :D and there's no way I'd run a sprocket setup geared for top end. I'd think everyone that does technical riding would want more torque. How to you figure taller gearing will keep your quad from lugging?

it all depends. either i'm in tight technical stuff using all my low end grunt and torque or i'm reving high over whoops. Most of the time in trails I am in 2nd gear and when it opens up 3rd. I have topped out in a trail once it was a long straight of whoops and I just pegged it out over them until I hydroplaned sideways and went darting between trees lol never again will I try to go that fast in a trail. Anyways I have the stock 1999 - 2004 gearing 15/38 and I love it. with the 2005 and up I felt I was in between gears too much for how I ride. 2nd was too short but had great torque and low end grunt but 3rd wasnt long enough for starights of whoops and if you shifted into 4th you bogged down. All person preferance though. For me with a few mods the 15/38 works out really nice and it wont have too quick of gears if you decide to make your engine captain insano.

IMO the gearing that should be run is the one that will "comfortably" allow the engine to do what it is that ya need it to do with the type riding that it is ya do. :eek2:
