My seal behind the sprocket is leaking oil. Do i have to get the bottom end opened up to get to it or can i get to it from the outside ? And is that engine oil or tranny oil coming out ? The seal on my shifter shaft, is the oil that it seals up engine or tranny oil ?
And can i run it if it leaks (just keep adding oil in it as needed)?
It is transmission oil coming out of both. You can change both seals from the outside. It is simple. Make sure you order a new oring and collar that is on the countershaft behind the sprocket. The seal wears a groove in the metal collar.

Whats the best way to get the seal out ?
A seal puller. If not you can use a strong pick or a screwdriver. If that isn't successfull you can drive a small sheet metal screw into the seal and pull it out with vise grips.
