I ordered a HMF sport series slip on for my 2002 honda 400ex the other day and it should be coming this week sometime. BUt is was wondering what do i need to install it parts wise? I know i should get a new head pipe gasket but is there anything else?? Also wht would the jetting specs be for it i have stock engine with K&N air filter and soon to be HMF Sport Series Slip on.

my hmf sport series slip on came with a 165 and a 170 main. i put the 165 in but will go with something smaller when i get the larger pilots. just put in what ever hmf sends you and tweak the carb from there.

I have the same thing on my 04, i have it at a 155 main with the fuel/air screw 2 1/2 turns out and the needle on the 3rd clip...Oh and a K&N..... You shouldn't need a new gasket unless you take the header off, which with a slip on you shouldnt and the gasket that goes on the header between the stock exhaust isnt used with the HMF...

Ok thanks.... and i plan on taking the header off and sanding it and re painting it with some high heat paint cuz i cant afford a new header right now.

Maker sure you open your airbox either by removing the lid or drill like five 1inch holes in it. what air filter are you useing?

Cool. This thread helped me a little. I bought my '99 used with HMF slip-on, K&N, and jetted. I tore into my carb to see what it had. My main is a 165 and my pilot is the stock 38. After reading this thread, I guess the 165 probably came with the HMF. I also have a strange air box lid. It is clear with 3 holes in it. I have been searching and finally found it online. It is a POWROLL lid. Maybe it was all ordered as a kit at some time, who knows ?? But with those mods, my EX runs great (in INDIANA) if you want to compare.
