so with gar prices being the way they are my GF's truck wasn't gunna work for our 35 minute commute so we went out car shopping. but we never made it past the VW dealership, the guy showed us a golf and we looked at some others then we came to IT an 04' Golf GTI fully loaded, of course being her car she got to do the test drive, but i got to take if off the lot when we picked it up. and that has to be the most fun little car I've ever driven. i havent gotten a chance to get pics but i will today.

now to convince her we should trade.

My wife has a loaded 2004 1.8t GTI - 5spd. Its a blast to drive when I want to break away from my 2006 Impala (company car) - which is about bland as bland can be in terms of "fun to drive".

I just took off the snow tires yesterday (Blizzaks) and did a spirited test drive to make sure everything was in line ;) - I forgot how well it handles...

She averages around 28-30 mpg - drives 10 miles to work (mostly city driving), so its pretty good on gas. When I drive, I get around 25-28 - I have a hard time keeping my foot out of the turbo...

its the 1.8t, and i know what you mean about the turbo, but when it kicks at 2500rpm how do you stay out of it :D.

the pep and handling really surprised me, its been a long time since I've driven anything smaller and sporty and I'm hooked. not worrying with any kind of mods #1 because its the womans ride, and #2 because of the warranty.

and pics are still pending need to find my camera

The tuner is easily put back to stock with no detection so no worries of warranty work. I wouldn't worry about it anyways, I've never heard of any problems with those motors, especially from the tuners. The older 1.8T were pretty quick, but the new GTI's are insane. My buddy sold his 03 VW jetta 1.8T APR tuned and now has an 07 VW GTI 2.0T APR tuned. 300 ft/lbs and still pulls 30mpg. He also drives hard. I cant keep up with him anymore in my truck!
