A 400EX, or Z400 with good suspension.

The rider makes the biggest difference. I beat a few people in the 450 class I race in on the Raptor 250 while the Kawi was in the shop.

Start with a keyboard with 26 letters on it.
Then get a 450, a killswitch, and a camelbak and go race the H3ll out of it. I tore up a lot of 450r riders with my 400ex just by riding harder then them. They get tired, then you pass them. A faster bike wouldn't have made me much faster, being in shape makes you faster.
All that being said, since I had to sell the 400, there will be a KTM 525 in my garage in a few months...

It has a lot to do with the rider, I've beat many 450's my DVX.
Suspension is a very important part.
