I am looking for more power from my bike, but it doesn't smoke at all, I am not tearing down a perfectly good engine. I am considering putting in a cam, but didn't know which one to run. I ride at the mines at treverton mostly. so i want the bike to be built for hills. I am running no lid with k+n WB R4 pipe, 158 main with 140 pilot and 6+ timing 15/38 gears i climb in 2nd wide open

I was wondering should i run a hot cam stage 1 or 2 for the long climbs? I also noticed people are running crf 450 timing chains in there 400's now is this the beefiest or is the xr 400 still desireable?

thanks alot

stage one cam and the cr450f timing chain. They can be had for about $30 if you look around;)

I agree and also look into a high compression piston with the cam and chain. prolly one of the most popular combos around IMO:cool:

I would also say stage 1 hot cam unless you went up in compression then I would say stage 2.

I am already paying 3.75 a gallon for 93 and you guys want me to run 100? imo 9:1 is plenty to reep the benefits of a cam... not to mention i'm not replacing the piston on a bike that doesn't smoke...once I smoke i will put in a 416 kit but compression will remain stock...but thanks for the input

any one else have oppinion?

Who said anything about 100 octane gas. 93 is more than enough for what you are doing.

when you decide its time to bump compression i would step it up to 11:1. much more power than 9:1 and can still run on pump gas

10.5.1 JE piston stock bore with stage 1 cam. I think thats the combo and the way to go. if money is not an option throw an FCR on there.

Stage 1 is highly under rated and IMO perfect for what you're doing. The stg 2 would perform just fine with your current compression if that's what you want. I've got a 10:1 416 with a stg1 with stock timing chain. I wouldn't bother changing your chain if it's still good but if you feel the need go with the CRF.
