Thanks to NOHVCC for this news bit. Some states have figured out how to
accommodate OHV recreation to the benefit of their citizens and the
environment. MN is the newest to be elevated on this list of
pro-recreation states. NY continues to embarrass itself in this regard.

A Day to Celebrate-Iron Range OHVRA Grand Opening October 5
(From: Jeremy Schoeppler, Minnesota Offroad Magazine)

A large crowd converged in Gilbert, MN on Saturday October 5 for the
ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of Minnesota's first Off
Highway Vehicle Riding Area. The project was the result of years of
work from many individuals working together to make it happen.

Bob Chance, the new supervisor of the riding area, welcomed everyone to
come and enjoy the riding opportunities the area has to offer.
Representative Tom Rukavina was the main author of the legislation
proposing the opening of the park, after members of vehicle user groups
requested an area for people to ride.

The area provides 1,200 acres of mine-land and forests riddled with over
30 miles of trails for off-road riding enthusiasts to enjoy. The trails
are open to motorcycles, all terrain vehicles and other off highway
vehicles such as 4-wheel drive trucks and jeeps. Amongst the trails the
area also features scramble areas, hill climbs, obstacle and challenge
courses for training and competition.

A new road was built for entering the park, which directs visitors to
the check-in facility. All off-road vehicles will have to comply with
safety and noise requirements and display current registration before
entering. The park has a huge parking area with vehicle wash facilities
nearby.

A bridge was constructed for vehicles to cross the railroad tracks to
enter the riding area. Once inside, riders can take to the trails.
There is also a building with restrooms at the entrance to the riding
area. A classroom building and two motocross training tracks will also
be constructed for events throughout the summer season.

The Gilbert OHVRA will operate seven days a week May 1 to October 31
from 8:00 AM to one hour before sunset. It will be closed the second,
third and fourth weekends in November for firearms deer hunting season,
then reopen of a weekend only schedule during the months.
