Cool to see some other shovelhead owners here! I've own an 84 lowrider (fxsb), but it looks more like a wideglide. Nothing beats the shovel experience!

Started with sportsters and moved to the bagger in 2000. Got the 07 Ultra a year ago with the 96" and the 6 speed.

Love it, as its a commuter bike (60 miles each way) bags are great for carrying the laptop and other crap. And it still gets 40 mpg on the highway at 80 mph.

Watch your local dealer as they have demo ride days, go down and demo the models you like. The wife had a honda shadow 600 and moved to the 883L (low) with out testing it. She hated it. Clutch was to hard and center of gravity was much higher. She sold it and now has a Ridley Automatic (CVT) motorcycle.

The other option, though more costly, is to find a dealer that rents them. Rent one for a day and put 400-500 miles on it and see if you realy like it.

I have thought about that also. i know that a soft tail will not ride as smooth as a fxr. but i just like the looks of it, and the chassis is a little longer, and that would help me cuse i'am 6'3" tall.

2007 Sportster 883 Custom.

We had it for a very short while, and sold it.

Personally, I think Harley's SUCK. Worst motorcycles ever made IMO. I really don't understand the attraction to them. They're garbage.:ermm:
I will admit, harley has come a long way, but still not that great IMO.

If I were to buy an american motorcycle in the future, it would be a Victory. Much better bikes.

But for now, ill stick with jap bikes. My dad had a V65 Magna for a while, which was comfortable as hell yet will consistantly smoke almost any harley.

Anyways, here it is for you Harley freeks:

Multiple reasons:

1) Outdated Technology - I mean come on? Air-cooled, carburated, and just a low-tech motor in general, except maybe the newer V-rods and such. Just recently they added fuel injection, but still idles like crap.

2) Slow - My god! 20+ year old gs1100's smoking the brand new V-rods? WTF. So much for their top of the line sportbike. It's really pathetic, actually, that something that old still kicks it's arse. (It was on pinks)

3) Reliability - My dad has owned a couple harley's in the past, and they all break down, run like crap, and vibrate like f'ing crazy. I will admit, the 07 sportster we had was much better, but still pretty damn lo-tech.

4) Poor Features - The 07 we had, was kept indoors and the front rim was already starting to rust. WTF?

Me and my dad are both die-hard jap fans. Theres nothing like 1100cc's of 150+ hp 13,500rpm inline 4's. God you gotta love it! But also, his V65 and CB900 were fairly comfortable but still hauled arse!

I mean, it's all in what you like to ride. If you like harleys, thats great! Just go out and ride, thats what its all about.

Your comparing apples to oranges, lmao.

First of all, Jap bikes don't run on torque you idiot, they run on horsepower and rpm. Oh, and by the way, the V65 Magna makes 125hp and around 85ft lbs torque stock. Eat that.

Also, your talking fully built, im talking stock. Of course a fully built V-twin will be fast, air cooled or not. I personally love S&S motors. It still won't touch a stock newer jap bike though.

Get your facts straight:rolleyes:

2. i never said it had to be stock

3.u said a jap bike will kill a harley. so in reality "idiot" u compared apples to oranges

4. your the idiot.

haha i knew this thread would get out of hand once i saw hondamasters first post. I like harleys, wish i had some pictures of my cousins bikes who is really into them. My favorite is his blue 05 Duece. Yes years ago harley had some trouble. Fuel gumming up in the carbs over the winter, rough idle, and vibration but thats what made a harley what they are. These new engines which i think are 96CI, fuel injected and 6 speed are on top of things. No rough idling, starts right up and still has that old 2 cylinder john deere tractor sound which i love (i hope everyone in here has heard the ol 2 cylinder Deeres so i dont feel retarded haha). With a harley you get a trusted name with a good resale value. But ill prolly never own one. Im tight with my money and 20,000 for a bike is beyond what gets outa my tight rear hole hahahaha but ill always set there and listen to one chug them off for hours, they have a sound of their own.

Kid you are nuts! Apparently you haven't seen or ridden a newer harley. My dad's is fairly new, and is fuel injected and has no problems whats-so-ever.

Oh, and in case ya didn't know....it looks about 10x that of your jap bike! That's what harley's are all about! I've gotta get a picture of it just for this thread now......he wants to get rid of it, but I'm trying to convince him to keep it around for a couple more years til I can afford it:)

I 'am just wondering were the jap bike comments were from... were did i ever ask about them???? oh yea i DID'NT. yea there is 1 japper that is cool the hyabusa. but that is it.
i dont want a high strung rice bike. i want a cruser bike that me and my wife can ride on and feal 1/2 way safe. and some day if i want to sell it i can get good value out of it.

At the end of my first post, I stated that it doesn't matter what you ride, its the fact you ride. Riding motorcycles is a great sport, I just said I don't like Harleys but I posted a pic of the one we had.

Theres always the idiot that starts picking fights, like the other kid.

If I were to buy a power-cruiser, this is my list:

1) Yamaha VMax
2) Honda VTX1800
3) Honda V65
4) Honda CB900

Like I said, the newer Harley's have come a long way, but it took until 2007 to do so.

I officially elect Hondamaster5505 as the biggest idiot on all of ATVriders.

No **** harleys arnt as fast and handle as good as Jap bikes. Jap bikes have 2 more cylinders, and are made for handling. Your comparing apples to oranges, sound a little familiar? Your dad most of sucked at maintenance, unless his bike was made by AMF, and since it was a 2007, it wasn't. Your comparing a 883 to a 4 cyl Jap bike lol. Thats like comparing a civic to a corvette.

883 with a 1200 motor and some odds n ends, raked over wide glide front end, 180mm tire.

only one I have of our wide glide, its an 01 with a 95cui inch motor we built, it's at 124 horse power and 120 torque.. Pops can be rolling at 25-30mph and lay into it carrying the front end for 50-60ft far and about 3ft high.. this is 2 up too  this past weekend with 540 miles on the motor he was riding 2 up going down the bypass, his buddy has a 130cui motor thats in the high 140 horse power range and it was like pissing in the wind, lil 95 blew on by him at 100 like he was standing still and kept on chuggin.. We are dying to take it down to cecil county once we get 1,000-1500 miles on it.

I'd say for anyone looking to get a bike a wide glide is perfect.. the size isnt to overpowering, handling is crisp and tight and the rubber mounted motor is a blessing. We had a softail custom with a s&s motor and at about 100mph the vibration was soooo bad, you'd think you were riding a cr500 :blah:

No, I wasn't comparing the performance bikes to harleys, I was comparing the power cruiser japs.

Like the Vmax and V65. Fast, torquey, and comfortable. Of course hayabusas and harleys don't compare, lmao.

And my dad is parynoid when it comes to maintance. He makes sure he uses top of the line everything and does whatever he can to keep it nice. In fact, right now he does ATV repair as a side business in his shop.

And, i said the 07 we had wasn't that bad. We were actually surprised coming from harley. He was actually thinking about keeping it just to ride, but needed money. He said it definitly wasn't hs top choice for a bike, but its something to ride.
Now, his harleys in the past were junk.

To keep the thread going, heres another pic.

lol No offense, but I abousoutly hate those Jap "cruisers" aka " cheaper Harley knock offs". There like watered down pussified versions of a Harley. Sure they faster and all that but I dont like em. thats just my IMO tho. I grew up around Harleys, my dad had a 72 Sportster(supposed to be mine but he had to get rid off all his bikes:( ) a 62 Panhead, and a 03 Softtail. I really cant buy myself a bike before he buys a new one for him, so I keep pushing for him to get a new one haha.
