I was finally getting my engine back together and was getting ready to put in my cam. the timing chain came off the bottom gear. So I took off the right case cover and was just wondering. Since I am this far into it. Should I put in a heavy duty timing chain? Also any suggestions to getting the chain back on. My manual showed to take off the clutch basket and showed a tool to hold the basket to take off the nut. Anyone know If I have to find/buy one of those holders or is there another way?

any advice/suggestions would be great.

If you have a impact gun that will take the clutch nut right off with just holding the hub by hand, I would definently put a 450 cam chain in always good insurence. If ya need more help im currently rebuilding my motor so I can always refer to my motor to see where your problem is.

thank you very much. I have an 18 volt dewalt nut driver that I can put a 3/8 or 1/2 drive on to. I think it would work.

the same thing happened to my brothers chain when we were changing the head gasket. he just kinda messed around with the chain while holding a flashlight until it went back on.

Make sure when you buy the chain its for a CRF450R.

Not the TRX450R.

Make sure you try and stake the nut again if you cant you'll have to buy another nut. Good Luck with everything

I don't know if I want to put in a hd timing chain, race season has already started and it's still not back together. Do you guys think it's completely nessisary? After looking more at the timing chain I think I can get it to slip onto the gear if i have another person there to pull up on the chain when I get it slid onto the gear.

Make sure you put the chain on the gear before you put the gear on the cam:D

Going with HD anything is always a good thing that way you aint breakin down during a race and end up putting more money into something that could have been a easy task to do.
