First of all, I am sorry if this is not in the correct area, I don't see a lot of these threads - and don't want to put it in the FS section because it's not a FS thread, just asking for some advice.

I've been out of the whole quad thing for quite a few years, and found a great price on a friend's 450R that he is selling. I want to put mine up for sale and take his 450R off his hands. The problem is that I don't know what my quad is worth -- that's why I'm hoping some of you guys can help me out?

Here is the list of mods...I have almost all stock parts to replace these, I'm not sure if it's easier to sell aftermarket parts seperately - or on the quad?

1) Race cut stock plastics.
2) ITP Holeshot MX 20" F/R tires with great tread left. (85%+)
3) Douglas rear beadlocks.
4) HMF slip-on exhaust.
5) TRX450R carb (not jetted).
6) Stock carb. jetted.
7) UNI air filter.
8) Brand new (zero hours/miles) 450R foot pegs.
9) Brand new (zero hours/miles) Primary Drive front/rear sprocket kit with chain.
10) New rear brake master cylinder.
11) TAG T2 handlebars (brand new, no ride time)
12) Brand new (zero hours/miles) Motion Pro clutch cable.
13) Brand new (zero hours/miles) TRX450R throttle cable.

I am thinking $3,000 is a reasonable price and I'd let it go for that...

The quad is in good condition, the plastics are not beat up, and the frame was recently painted flat black. It looks like a good condition quad that has been ridden.

Any accurate pricing you guys can think of I would really appreciate it.

If I can get more money for the quad stock and sell my aftermarket parts, I will do that, but maybe in the quad world mods add to resale?

Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply. I just browsed craigslist to see what they are going for and they are going from around ~$2500+. There is an '04 with some minimal mods compared to mine going for $2,800 I believe...as long as I can get around, or $3,000 I will be very happy.

Redrider yes Cali bikes sell better. You have to also think of the location the bike is in. Places where it doesn't snow, you get a little better resale value

You also have to think that a lot of buyers are turned off by mods. I think that a stock bike adds more value to the sale because people make the mistake that their bikes are worth what they put into it. Mods scare people away because buyers don't know what kind of riding the seller has done.

i totally agree. if i was in the market, especially for a 400ex, i would look for something closer to stock form. i would put as many stock parts back on it as possible, with maybe the exception of like tires and handlebars if u have those. and then sell aftermarket parts on e bay and here. you will get more that way. good luck.

edit- lookin over your mods, none of those are really worth taking off. but i think you need to put the stock jetted carb on if you have that 450 non jetted carb on it. good luck. i think you could atleast get about 2800 if you wait it out long enough and dont let anyone lowball you.

Thanks,

I have been lowballed on eBay already. I have one offer for $1,500 - and another offer for $1,600.

Most of my mods are not really mods, they are just "better" parts. I can always throw on the stock pipe and do plan on throwing on the stock carb.

Hopefully that will generate some interest, because right now all I have offers for are trades.
