what stock? i dont know, and about the traction thing gearing wise the kfx is a regular torque monkey but if you got stock tires then that would be my bet for the poor traction, i dont get it, they look pretty versatile, their just....not .

yeah stock..ive heard that the gearing isnt good on it or something..and that it needed to be changed..but the 43 hp stock is hard to believe because all the other 450's are in the 30's for horse power..

The more time I get in on my KFX the more I absolutely HATE the gearing. I can never tell what gear im in, and in the tight stuff I am always shifting cuz it is just barely off from where it feels like it should be. But, I am running all stock. So i dont want to make too many changes until I get a pipe and PC and then see where Im at.

Oh, and ya, the stock tires are worthless-especially in a mud race.

Wow is this kid smoking the reefer or what a stock Honda has like 44 or 45 man. Every 450 is around the 43-46 hp range stock except for the ltr but thats why they have the 30 dollar cherry bomb.

WOW i think your smoking the reefer. im now guessing that you are a high power bike mechanic or some kind of scientist cuz any 450 at the rear wheels COMPLETELY STOCK wont even put out 30 horse power.
you must have lots of dyno experience to know how much you do.... or you can read what the BOOK says. and in the book its at the crank there is all the loss of horsepower from the weight and load. you lose you peter puffer.

sorry to reopen a old convo

THis has been said over and over again. All dynos are not the same. I can see getting that much HP AT THE CRANK Not wheels

Heres a post from this site showing HP all most sports quads

Take a look at the high HP numbers for all of them. A stock Z at 36.6. I dont think so

i dont think jay would say the kfx puts out 47 hp unless he was deliberatly BSing you...the bike is RATED at 43 hp from kawi meaning at the engine not at the wheels

yes the engine makes good power as with all the 450's. as far as traction goes....try changing your sprockets. thats what most ppl do. a popular combo is a 15t front and 36t rear. I myself have the 15t up front with the stock 38 in the rear and while i can notice a slight difference in the gears being a little taller it isnt as much of a difference as some ppl made it out to be. i still have traction issues.

It all depends on who does the Dyno..they all read differently..Mine ran about 36 stock and with a few bolt on mods i'm at 45. As for the gearing, I normally run stock in the rear with a 15 in the front, in the dunes i go back to the stock 14 in the front and it rips like a charm. I'm chaning the cams in the next few weeks and will let you know what it looks like but i'm hearing i should expect awesome mid power gains
