an impact gun (electric or pneumatic) will bang it off without needing to hold the basket

If you can put the bike in the highest gear, hold the brake and get it off with a breaker bar

Yeah, when i had to do it i put it in gear and took it out. I did it when i was 10. Just remember how it goes together. Also, you may need to hammer the rod through with a screw driver. But keep it in there in case there are bearings that try to fall, then put oil on the new shaft and slide it in and keep the screw driver in and hitting the shaft until it's through.

put a coin in the gears so they cant turn if u dont have an impact gun... if you do the coin thing i think the bike has to be in gear put it in 1st

we made a tool out of vise grips to hold it but other than that just use an impact.
