I was thinking of maybe waiting for the 09's and looking for a 07 close out, or in the next couple months looking for a leftover 06. but I was figuring id be paying around 5500 for an 06 now, brand new leftover. I can find 04/05's for 33-3600 all day. some with nerfs/bumper/paddles, etc...

lookswise I do like the 06+more but I like the 04/05 alot too. performance wise I know the 06+ is faster, but what about when both are equally built. P&P/cam/same cr, same pipe, same intake, etc...

do they equal out a little more?

I figured with the money saved buying an 04 I could get a ESR airbox eliminator, rossier exhaust, HCS3, kibblewhite springs, rev box, wiseco 12:1, P&P the head. and I am sure Id whoop on a stock 06, but with the identical mods to the 06, which would most likely be faster. and also assuming identical gearing/tires.

with all the mods it must make up for whatever the 04/05 lacks in terms of engine compared to the newer model???

i personaly like the 04 more than the 06+, but in reality, when modded fully all of the 450s are almost exactly the same speed/handling wise

well looks wise 04-08 are basically identical. performance wise, just put a 06+ FCR carb on an 04/05 and they are pretty much identical other than the gearing. I got an 05 that owns LTR's and YFZ's. I even beat a a CRF 250 like nothing. So performance wise, as long as you build it, you will win.

06+ also have 12.1 compression pistons too.

I bought another 04-05 a little over a week ago mainly due to the transmission problems in the 06+. I've been running my 05 for years and haven't had one major mechanical failure engine or transmission wise. *knocks on wood*

Wiseco 12:1 ? I'd go with JE, CP, or DRG 12.5:1! And a Stage 2 Hot Cam, or better yet a Web Cam 493/729. And you say you want a port and polish? I'd say your best bet would be to get a hold of Chad (chad502ex) of DRG. He can piont you in the right direction.

I know they are close in looks, but the headlight setup does look a bit better on the new ones, not enough to sway my decision either way. and I knew the newer ones had 12:1 but i didnt think the 04/05 did. I dont know what the stock cr was.

also, why would you reccomend the stage 2 over stage 3 if im going for the most power on a stock bore. I originally wanted to get a ice cube bb/stroker or maybe just a ice cube big bore, but they are expensive and the price of the big bore stroker pays for everything else i wanna do almost. so I can just do it later if i really want to.

i was thinking of the JE 12.8:1, and I know that the newer ones are 12:1 and the bikes are in the 13's:1 and all run on pump gas, and if I have a big cam, would my dynamic cr be low enough with a static 12.8 to run pump gas. whatever I do, I do not wanna run race, not even 50/50. if 91 is 3.50 or more, I dont even wanna know what 108 costs. and Ive heard octane booster in a bottle is really just a joke.

also about beating a crf250, x or r and what type riding. my girl has a 04 yfz, DRD/pro design, no lid, geared down one in front.

my brother in law has a crf250x, completely stock though, next time I go down there its getting a drilled diffuser, modded airbox, and rejetted so im sure it will wake it up because it is nice and lean stock.

havent raced side by side or even ridden back to back but I swear the YFZ pulls harder than the bike, im sure it would be close though.

does chad (DRG) have a website I could go look at?

also what would you do the ESR airbox eliminator for only 74 bucks, or the fuel customs(ive heard they are the best, but its 190 bucks)

alright, thanks.

Ill hopefully have the bike in the next few months, only thing that sucks is toys are more expensive in the summer months, Id rather buy it when its always raining out. which doesnt happen here much anyways, but I have wanted a 450r since 03 when I first read they were coming and I dont wanna wait another half a year.

I don't know where you are located, but I know that there is an 06 leftover at a dealership called Engelhart in Madison, WI for $4500.00. The website is
http://www.powersportsnetwork.com/enthusiasts/pre_owned_detail.asp?PreOwnedVehicleCode=522107&ManufacturerCode=1&VehicleCategoryCode=2&PriceFrom=0&PriceThru=5000&ModelYearFrom=1900&ModelYearThru=2009&DealerState=WI&type=&piconly=n

The price listed on the site is $5000.00 but if you call the guy and ask about the internet special he should take off $500 (he did for an 06 that I recently bought from there). Thought it was a good deal so I'm just letting you know

Im all the way in arizona, plus wont be able to afford it now, maybe if he still has some in a couple months ill check on shipping one or something. anyways, how common is the crank failure on the 04/05?

I would take an 07-08 kicker over the 04-05 models any day. As for the tranny, there are mods to fix that for all years.

for the 04/05, the fix is the sticky in here that is a new crank bearing and shim, correct?

and also, what reasons would make you put the 07/08 so far ahead of the 04/05?
