i have no clue maybe the ex 's have a different sprocket or something to give them more top end

i can pull it up in 3rd but i feel like i have no topend for some reason mabe jet to small?

Im not real good with jets and stuff but try changing the jetting. Another thing that could explain you loosing could be weight difference. if you weigh more than you opponent then he may be faster.
