Hi everyone...

I am rather new around here....

but anyway.... I bought my used 2002 400ex a couple years ago....

And finally started riding it...

I went to wayne national forest this past week..... and the quad is bullet proof.

I think my steering stem is tweeked also is there anything I can do to maybe make the suspension softer... i way about 175LB naked :macho

the stock 400ex shocks have virtually no adjustability. you probably wont be able to get them any softer. your bets bet is the buy some new shocks. if your on a budget, rebuilt 450r shocks wprk just as goos as aftermarket for a much better price.

If you were to put on riding pants, jersey, helmet, goggles, gloves, boots, chest pro, hydration pack, shin and elbow guards, You'd probably weigh almost 20 lbs more, and that might make it feel a bit softer.
but, I like your idea better,...
get new shocks,... and RIDE NAKED ! ! ! :eek2: :D

I never adjust suspension, only riding apparel. If Im bottoming out over the big stuff, off with the pants. Bottoming over everything? There go the boots and jersey. And If I ever get out west to the dunes, I'll be the guy with nothing but a pair of gloves and a smile. Just follow the sounds of the police sirens.

the reason yu are not getting any serious answers is the fact that the 400ex suspension is like the sofstest suspension for a sport fourwheeler you can buy. people are always wanting stiffer shox and never.. well in your cas rarely ever want softer shox.

gotcha... maybe i am just a light person at 175LBs .. dunno..

its not horrible.. but i just thought a little softer would be nice.. I just ride bumpy trails

Im sure you know you can adjust the rear shock. 450R front shocks will be adjustable but they are still stiff and probably still require being rebuilt.

how do i got about adjusting the shock

i'm about 155lbs without gear and my stock suspension on the 3rd preload click was okay for whoops and small stuff but it was way too soft. When you can bottom out on whoops you know its soft. Even on the 5th click its pretty soft. put it ont he 1st click then

i think your misunderstanding the suspension. its not that they're stiff, they just suck. get a pair of 450r shocks and youll be fine.

agreed..

or you could look for KFX400 or DVX400 front shocks, 05 or newer..

they have a progressive spring and are also fully adjustable.
