Here are a few hill climbs that I found while riding near the Mount Caramel area on Saturday 19 April 08. I don't know if it is all reading anthracite land but I did pass a lot of people riding in the area.

The trails that I seen have ranged from rocky to smooth but not as open as the trails we ride in Minersville.
Some of the hills I have pictured are big and the pics don't do them justice because I had to resize them. Most of the big ones I found at this place, can be done without paddles because there seems to be good traction and don't have a huge vertical lip at the top like some of the ones I saw at Trevorton on saturday. My skill level at this time is not ready for the huge vertical lips.
Yes, after a half day of riding this area, I did go to Trevorton to check out the hills. The 500 hill looks washed out some and I didn't even try it but I did do the one to the right of it where you don't have any run before going up the hill and it seemed fine except for being a little loose at the top.
Hope you guys are able to get out soon. See ya on the hills.

HEYYY!

I wasn't expecting what I saw when I clicked on this. Most people call this place Ashland, so when I saw Mt Carmel I thought it was something different.

I ride up there all the time. Ashland, PA. Its one of the most awesome riding spots ever! Lots of people on nice days too.

You ever see a red 400ex/red banshee/blue banshee up there? Thats us!

Good lookin pics Hondamaster5505!!
I stand corrected with the name of the place but I thought it was closer to mount carmel then ashland but if that is what everyone calls that area I will call it that also.
Maybe we'll see you there some weekend when we ride there.
Where is that pic with the steam comming out from the road?
I would have thought that shot came from centraila forgive my spelling but not sure how to spell it.
I thought those hills were awesome and I hope to get out there with my riding buddies sometime soon. We are going to Trevorton this weekend and it should be a lot of fun.

Where do you guys park when you ride in ashland?

I don't know the next time we're going there, hopefully sometime soon.

That pic with the steam coming out of the road, that is in fact centrailia. Where we enter, if you go down the main trail, theres another trail off to the side somewhere. You take that trail, end up crossin two roads along the way, and it brings you to that abandoned highway. We also can get to a bunch other smoking places out there. The good part about making friends with locals:D

Those hills are awesome. I don't have to balls to do them though:eek: Do you? How bad are they, because from the top it looks crazy. I know the 400ex wont make it up, but the 700 and banshee's definitely should.

We park at one of the actual coal mine entrances. You go in, and its like a small paved driveway with a gate going into the coalmine. With a house to the right of the paved drive. You go around the gate, and theres this steep hill directly in front of you, you can go to the right or left of it.

Do you know where this little area is? (vid we made right by the entrance)

And also, trvorton looks like a lot of fun. Tell me how it is.

Not sure where that area is that you took your vidieo at.
Trevorton has a lot to do. You can hill climb some big hills if you like or you can ride for miles on all the trails around the area. I am still trying to learn my way around the trails and am always looking for more hills to climb.
Maybe I'll see you around the ashland area sometime. I here ashland has some huge hill climbs, some of them bigger than the ones at trevorton, but I don't know where to find them.

Maybe we can show you some time:D

We met this local up there in ash, and he literally lives in the place. Real damn good of a rider. He has an 06 piped banshee, and I just get chills watching him climb some of these hills. I mean real real steep and no runway with all loose shale on the way up.

But anyways, he knows the whole place by heart. He showed us some spots in ashland we never even knew about. Next time we're up there we're gonna call him, to go riding. Ill ask him to show us some sick ****

He also knows all the trails from ashland to trevorton, so you can literally ride one to the other.

We only rode with him once, but next time we go up he said to call him.

We'll let you know the next time we go up there. maybe you can tag along and go with us.

Heres that guy we told you about. This is 500 hill (the one in the pics above)

We ride at Trevorton all the time well for the last 2 years and I'm just getting to know the trails there. We ride out towards East Cameron and further. Like you said the trails up in that area are awsome. When we ride I take my gps to track out travel along with speed, distance, etc., we ride around 50 to 70 miles per day.

I track most of that stuff too. I don't have a gps though, so I cant mark trails and such. But the trailtech vapor gives distance, time, temp, speed, rpm, etc. Its great to track long rides.

ashland is all mixed though, thats what I love about it. Wide open but still has many nice trails that you can just rip on.

I gotta get out to trevorton one of these days.

Is Ashland part of RAC?

BigAl73
06-14-2008, 09:45 AM
I'm not sure if it is because some of the land we ride around Trevorton isn't RAC. Some is posted but I see many trails going into or around gates. I think if your careful and don't destroy property or leave a mess not much is said. Just ride safe and be smart when in doubt.

I havn't gotten a RAC permit yet, I hear mixed things about it, that the map they give you is very vague and their property is mixed in with a bunch of other coal property that is owned by others.

I used to ride Freeland until they started cracking down over there and the state game commission took over some of the land and started patrolling certain areas.

I hear a lot of good things about Trevorton and it's only an hour away from me I'd love to check it out but is it safe? Does anyone hassle you there? Can you park almost anywhere or do you have to fear angry locals setting your truck and trailer ablaze? I found it on Google earth and from what I read on most forums people just park right at coal hill i'm still hesitant though. I like to ride without having to look over my shoulder or worry about running from the cops.

No it's nothing like that. No one bothers you unless you piss them off or act cocky. If you get your permit you'll be legal and won't have to worry about anything if your cool. As far as parking we park on the flats that is on the way down the hill just before Trevoron on the right. The next time we plan a ride I'll give you a shout and maybe you can go along.
