weird noise

my 400 has a ticking sound when i first crank it, it only does it when its cold, after it warms up it stops... any ideas what this may be?

if a valve is out of adjustment will it cause the quad to idle roughly? its not smoking or anything, but i have noticed a difference in the idle sounds, is it dangerous to ride it like this if the valves are not in spec? could it cause damage? keep in mind im new into all this...

if the valves are way out of adjustment it will definitly ruin your motor. Get them adjusted. You can do it yourself, get a manual or take it somewhere.
