On my 02 400ex I had a wrist throttle; personally I dislike that throttle setup on quads. So I purchased a thumb throttle setup from my Honda dealer. I installed it and it’s really stiff. Where can I apply lube? And what lube would I use?

I am really not sure if they make lube for the throttle cable. Because it goes into the carb and might gunk internals up.
Go to your local dealer and ask what they say. I've never had this problem, I think 400ex's have butterly throttles.

the throttle cable only runs to a lever, which is attached to the slide. the lever mechanism is separate from any carb internals. if you go to your dealer, you can get cable lubing kits which will work on either clutch or throttle cables. try using carb cleaner on the slide, wd40 on the outside portion of the lever, and cable lube on the cable. also, grease the thumb throttle pivot.
