I am running 20" sand stars currently, they corner awesome!!! But I cant throw a good roost with them to save my life. I have noticed that the haulers throw a lot bigger roost, but can you turn as good with them? I love ripping the trails and cornering, but I want to sling a bigger roost. :D

what exactly are you referring to in slinging a big roost?

i understand what roost is...

im just wondering if you're always wanting it, or if you just want to be able to do it when you want, or...?

you're not able to ever throw a good roost with the sand stars?

get the haulers, you can turn it in the trails
(just use a little more gas and some body languag)

hook alot better for hill shooting and drag racing
make sure you have enough motor for the number of paddles
you choose

The V style paddle will turn better, the straight paddle will hook up better in a straight line.... What kind of riding do you do the most.. Also as for the roost, only run a couple pounds of air in your sand stars and you should have a roost.. if thats what you want..

I've found knobbies are actually the best tires for throwing the most dramatic roost. To get big roost you need lots of wheel spin and knobbies spin the best.

This Z wouldn't be throwing roost like that with paddles on it. It'd still roost, just not as much.

If throwing "show roost" is what you're after, I don't think you'll notice a massive difference between Sand Stars and Haulers. It kinda depends on exactly what Haulers you're talking about though. Lower paddle count and/or high tire pressure will get the most spin--and again, spin is what you need for big roost.

Haulers do kick up a lot of what I call "leading roost". That's the roost that hangs in the air for a second behind the leader when you're snaking through the dunes. It's not really the "show roost" that you're talking about, but rather an annoying mist that follows a Hauler equipped machine. All tires do that to a degree but Skat-Traks seem to do it the most.

yep... for that very reason i dont run haulers...

it sucks riding in a group with people that run haulers...

I can throw roost just fine with my sand stars. But my buddies have haulers and they throw a lot more sand. Show roost and "trail roost" as well.

I will probably try a set of haulers next, for ****s and grins. I ride a YFZ, cam mod, uni filter and sparks exhaust. Should I go with 8 paddles and are the extremes too much?

my 2004 yfz with a pipe, no lid and k+n came with 9 paddle extremes. I havnt used them yet. They are brand new. Would it be a good idea to go smaller or will the extremes work good? they are 20" thanks alot!!!

20" is a good size, but I would recommend 8 paddles on your quad. I think that 9 paddles will rob power from your bike, especially being extremes. Just my 2 cents. ;)

do you know from experience or a guess? i think that it is also to much paddle, but the previous owner said it worked real good

9 paddle extremes are alot of paddle.

Try the 9's, if you don't like em', sell them and buy 8's.

we run the 9 paddle extremes (10" wheels) on both the YFZ and the Raptor 700. It works well enough that most in our group (around 25-30) have switched to the same paddles.

i would imagine that the sand has a pretty big affect on it as well...

for instance... i ride primarily the imperial sand dunes (glamis), and i run my sand stars with tons of air in them, and my front end is always coming up...

however, when i was at coral pink, the sand was way different, and i ended up running them pretty low and even still it was much more difficult to bring the front end up...

a lot depends on the sand, the air pressure, the bike, etc...
and a majority of the people wouldnt really be able to tell the difference, or notice that their bike is bogged down... it may still perform great, just NOT AS great as it would with the "optimal" amount of paddles
