my friend brian was doing wheelies on my 250EX today. of course, i didn't want him to so i told him not to. he did anyway. he stood it up, smashed the rear grab bar off the ground and scraped it pretty bad. i have never hurt or scraped anythiny on it and i am very upset. should i take it off, sand it, spray it and put it back on? i want to paint it a shiny, metalic, chrome. i was think about spray painting the front and back red to make it look better. what's everyone's opion. what should i do? thanks.

hey man, dont be too p*ssed, at least he was wearing a helmet...could have scraped his scalp along with your bar...its only a grab bar

Pish Posh... Don;t worry about it. Just spray a little bit of clear coat on it and it will be fine. Just don;t let it rust. Then when you do end up really bashing the thing then you can go buy a new one.

for things like that i just brush the rust off (if there is any) with a steel brush and then i get a spray paint and try to get the same color and patch it up....

It could be worse. Your friend could have jumped it and landed on the grab bar.

He never would have flipped it if he was covering the rear brake. :devil

I agree with most here, clean it up and clearcoat it.

Hey, sand it a little bit, and pick up a can of duplicolor dark metalflake gray.. its a shade darker than stock, but its the closest to the original color we have ever found. used it on some stock a-arms, and you cant even tell the difference.. or feel free to send it to me, and I can powdercoat it any color ya want
just my .02 cents

Dude.... Thats what its there for... or you can all the plastics and the stock bars good bye. And if there isnt anyone who doesent tip it up on a regulair basis, they have seriouse problems. Just leave it :blah (Most people i ride with have a flat grab bar from ridin wheelies on black top.)

i'm just going to take it off, sand it, and spray paint it. i'm sure it'll happen again. he didn't actually flip it. it just stood on the grab bar and came back down. we're both glad the bars didn't come down and crush his rib cage or something. it snowed a lot and i'm looking foward to riding tom. my dad did a really big powerslide coming out of an intersection today. no one was around. i'm going to be doing a lot of wheelies(if i can get grip) this winter. you can't scrape the bar if it's on snow.

11-26-2002, 09:43 PM
haha, i had my 400ex one day and it was all scraped up after that :p

One time I got stuck trying to go over a log over a trail and got stuck on it. My friend on his recon wasn't paying attention smacked me in 3rd gear, luckily only bent grab bar into plastic. His front bumper now is bent back and flows with the plastic better;) :p Just by a new/used one on ebay thats what I did and painted is red. Looked nice painted up but riding wheelies soon wore the new paint off. Just wait till you roll it and bend the bars and scratch all the plastic:devil

i was riding in the snow yesterday. there was ice under some some snow and i slid into a steel rail and it dinged my rims. whoops. oh well. it'll happen again and again. its called the "break-in process". i guess if it's not a little banged up i'm not riding it hard enough.

i got my quad almost 1 1/2 months ago and you should see all the scratches and dings. my first time out i had it stuck in mud over its wheels within the first 2 hours. had to have it pulled out
