2008 GNCC Series-Round#4-"UTV RACE" Coverage!

WOW!!! A great turn out at this round for the seasons first UTV GNCC event!

The race was held after the afternoon quad race on a 2 mile course. It offered a decent amount of challenging terrain and plenty of tight woods!

The machines ranged from stock to modified:eek2: and everything in between.

TT Legend Shane Hitt was all ready to kick this thing off!

The teams were awesome, with everyone happy as could be and spirits high!

Now....the scary part for me was knowing what happens when a UTV running wide open makes contact with the average pine tree. I use these trees to protect me from quads when I am shooting the races and when this guy gave me the wild eye look, the thought crossed my mind that I had best find big trees:devil:

As long as Jim Stack was riding shotgun, I figured I had a chance of not getting hit:blah:

William Yokely had a very short amount of seat time in his Razor prior to the event. I wasn;t even sure he knew how to ride/drive something taht did not have handy bars!!!:D

The first turn was wide enough for a UTV, maybe two:eek2: And when they got the signal to go, the first line was off and running with Yokley out front !

The start quickly showed the fans that the first turn could handle 3 or 4 wide!

The number 51 machine of Denny Shadron had Adam McGill riding shotgun and who better to bring you some good luck!

4 rows of class were staged as another class heads through the first turn

This class was big and boy did they use every inch of the track!

The last row only had 2 entries, but boy were they slick!

The crowds started to disperse after the start but with only a 2 mile track, the leaders would be charging back around in no time!

Kind of brought back memories of the 70's classic Death Race 2000:devil:

Being out front is always a good thing, and Yokley was intending on staying there!

damage was evident as teh 1st lap was complete

The set ups were varied with varying tires, suspension and all sorts of crazy things to keep riders safe

Tim Farr was ripping it up on his Razr!

The battles were pretty wild at times, and some bumping and grinding was starting to happen

I know they had to be sane when designing the course, but I would imagine they will step it up as this grows

McGill was doing his bets to give Denny directions!

Yokely was wanting lappers between him and Shadron!

I sure wanted to race myself seeing how much fun they were having

New lines were there if you had the nerve!

The woods were typical GNCC style...just a tad bit wider:p

When your husband is ripping around the woods during a UTV race, you will find out how much he loves you if he gets you in the middle of the track with the hammer down:p

Bottlenecks were a problem just like during the quad race, and so were lappers!

Without being able to discern what team was who, I just snapped away and enjoyed the racing!

many of the machines were evenly matched and it would come down to who could out break who, or who had the jimmies to keep it pinned and make a pass!

Denny must have put down some speed as mcGill grasps the "oh chit" bar pretty good as they scoot past me

This team came into scoring a little to hot and almost put it on its top!

It took some serious reactions by the driver along with some luck kept them from going over!

I know it sure seemed the particpants were having fun and even though the competition was fierce, it all made for a well rounded race!

The Ranger model had to be a hard ride for this type of race:p

I hope this type of event continues to grow, and while not everyone with a UTV will enter, it could open the doors for those willing to extend the days fun by racing them!

McGill had enough winning for the day, but he was headed back to the podium with his pilot Denny Shadron and some big smiles!

I had a blast watching, and wouldnt mind dragging a machine to the next event to see how well i could do with a seat belt and a roll cage:devil: I hope to see even more entries at the next round!
