I have a 2004 that I am about to trade in on a 05 yfz 450. Is there anything I should know about the 05 yfz that might be something of concern? Are the motors pretty good or do they have bearing problems like the 450r? I have a yellow limited editon yfz 450 that my wife rides, and it has never had any problems. I just am not as familier with the yfz's.

Ive got a yfz and 2 honda trx450's..

I prefer the honda's over the yfz.

From what Ive read, I dont think they have alot of problems other than the water pump seal leaking, that seems like a pretty common problem.

i just switched from a 450r to a yfz. will never go back, but the 450r was awesome too.

YFZ FO SHO there are alot of threads about the 2005 yfz on here so might try searching it. but a few things anyway; the chain adjustment isnt a concentric design. not a big deal just a little more involved. the stock shocks pretty much got better every year. might consider the oil upgrade depending on your engine work and type of riding. the 05s still have the 439cc engines. i would get the yfz fo sho:D

I was a die hard Honda rider, I even have a Honda logo tanned onto my back big enough to cover both shoulder blades. I got one lap on a stock Yfz, and the 450r was on eBay in less than a week. If anyone has an 06+ for sale let me know. I hope that little tidbit was useful.

I havent adjusted my chain yet, but wasnt aware it was any different.

Can you explain the process?

And, what is the oil upgrade?

and I wasnt doggin' the YFZ, it's really a good bike but compared to my 450R, it has better ERGONOMICS (sp?)

I feel more stable riding it, It handles & steers better than the YFZ.
It kinda feels like im sitting really high, like on a tractor and when you take corners fast you are more prone to falling off and slipping off the back.

But the YFZ stock for stock has more power than the 450R.

I have both. Even tho my 450 has LT Elkas and my yfz is stock, i prefer the yfz a little more compared to the 450's power but the 450r feels like your riding on air.

I have owned three yfz's and one POS 450r. I will never buy another 450r, nothing but problems!

Like stated above, the only problem I had with the yfz was the waterpump seals. No biggie!

Based off my first 450r....i agree they are nothing but a money pit and i would like to go smack honda for it  , but my second 450r is actually running really good so far (knock on wood) with only the bearings going bad.....Also is it me or do the YFZ batteries SUCK

Ahh yes I forgot about that! The stock batteries due suck but you can upgrade to a rocket battery that is 10 times better. Regardless, the little problems that the yfz have don't even compare to the major ones that the 450r has...

To the above: Yes. You are right. I have owned and worked on both, and my experiences say you speak the truth.
